[Windows] Cannot use the device information retrieval function/authentication function

If device information cannot be retrieved in the [Device Settings] sheet of the driver, or if the department ID management function or user authentication function cannot be used, there may be a problem with the device status, connection status, or length of the device name.
Check the following to resolve the problem.

Has the device been started? Is the cable also connected correctly?

Check the status of the device.

Is the device configured to match the connection environment?

In a print server environment
Use the installer of the driver to install Canon Driver Information Assist Service to the server computer.
Install the driver from media such as the DVD-ROM with TCP/IP as the protocol.
In a USB connection or port connection environment
The device information retrieval function, department ID management function, and user authentication function cannot be used. Use another connection environment, such as a TCP/IP network connection environment.
You cannot use these functions with the following port connection environments:
When the device is directly connected using the SMB function
[Enable printer pooling] is selected in the [Ports] sheet of the printer properties screen
The device is connected using the WSD (Web Services on Devices) port

Is the device name too long?

Confirm that the device name registered in [Devices and Printers] in Windows does not exceed the following number of characters. If it does, change the name on the [General] sheet or [Sharing] sheet of the printer properties screen.
Device name: Maximum 209 characters
Shared name: Maximum 260 characters
