How to Avoid Paper Jams
If paper jams occur frequently, there may be a problem in the condition of the loaded paper.
Eliminating the Basic Causes of Paper Jams from the Loaded Paper
Find the answers to your questions about how to solve your problems.
Is the loaded paper curled?
If paper jams occur, paper curl is often the cause. The paper stiffness, direction of curl, and amount of curl have a strong influence on how well the paper is transported through the machine. Read "Precautions Regarding the Curling of Paper" in the User's Guide. If paper is curled, always adjust the curl amount to the appropriate level as described.

"Introduction (About the Machine)" > "Hardware Specifications" > "Available Paper" in the User's Guide > see "Precautions Regarding the Curling of Paper".
Have you fanned the paper stack well?
Before loading paper, fan all four sides of the paper stack well and align the edges to facilitate feeding. Also, you should always fan paper that has just been removed from a newly opened paper package.

"Introduction (About the Machine)" > "Hardware Specifications" > "Loading Paper" in the User's Guide > see step 3 in "Basic Paper Loading Method".
NOTE
When you use paper loaded in the Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E, make sure that the paper is loaded properly.
If paper jams occur in the Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E, fixing the Side Guide Plate too tight is often the cause. Remove all the loaded paper, close the paper drawer to lower the inside lifter, and load the paper again.

"Options"> "Optional Equipment" > "Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E" in the User's Guide > see "Changing the Paper Size for the Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E".
If paper jams occur when using envelops loaded in the Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E, fixing the Side Guide Plate too tight when loading envelopes is often the cause. Load envelopes properly again.

"Options" > "Optional Equipment" > "Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E" in theUser's Guide > see "Loading Envelopes in Multi-drawer Paper Deck-E".
