Constructing a Database Server

iW Management Console can operate both when the databases are on the same computer and when they are on different computers. This section describes the procedure for installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, included on the iW Management Console CD-ROM.
IMPORTANT
To apply a service pack to a constructed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, obtain the appropriate update using Windows Update or from the Microsoft website and apply it.
The flow of operations for constructing a new database server is indicated below.

Preparing to Install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

If you want to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express in a computer other than the server computer in which iW Management Console is installed, it is necessary to install the following components in the computer.
.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
Windows Installer 4.5

Installing .NET Framework

Check the installation status of .NET Framework, and install .NET Framework as necessary.
IMPORTANT
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is included on the iW Management Console CD-ROM. See the Readme file for information on its location within the CD-ROM. If you do not have the iW Management Console CD-ROM, obtain .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 from the Microsoft Web site.
There are two types of installers for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1; the bootstrap version and the full package version. The installer included on the CD-ROM is the bootstrap version. With the bootstrap version, the installer connects to the Microsoft Web site during installation. For computers that cannot connect to the Internet, obtain the full package version from the Microsoft Web site to install the .NET Framework. For instructions on installing .NET Framework, see "Installing .NET Framework Version 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package)."

Installing Windows Installer 4.5

If the operating system of the database server is Windows Server 2003, check the installation status of Windows Installer 4.5.
If Windows Installer 4.5 is not installed, install it.
1.
Log on to the computer as a user with Administrator privileges.
2.
Use Explorer, etc. to check whether the Msi.dll file is in the following folder.
%systemroot%\system32
If the Msi.dll file is not in the above folder, Window Installer has not been installed. Proceed to step 4.
3.
Check the version of Windows Installer.
Right-click the Msi.dll file → select [Properties].
Click the [Version] tab → check the value in [File Version]. If the value in [File Version] is '4.5.xxxx.xxxx', Windows Installer 4.5 has been installed. If another value is displayed, proceed to step 4.
4.
Download Windows Installer 4.5 from the Microsoft website and execute it.
