Creating Ports

Select the IP address or host name, port name, and device type for the port to be created in [Create Port].
To display the [Create Port] dialog box, select [Specify Device IP Address or Host Name] in the [Method to Add Port] dialog box and then click [Next].
Note
Host names that contain only numbers cannot be used.
[IP Address or Host Name]
Specify the IP address or host name of a device to be used on a port to be created. You can enter a maximum of 127 single-byte characters. If double-byte characters are used, you can enter a maximum of 7 double-byte (14 single-byte) characters.
When entering an IP address, the IP address with a character string that begins with "OM_" is displayed in [Port Name]. When you have entered a host name, the same character string entered in [IP Address or Host Name] is displayed in [Port Name].
[Port Name]
Specify the port name. You cannot use an existing port name. You can enter a maximum of 64 double-byte (128 single-byte) characters.
[Device Type]
The type of device that was specified or obtained is displayed.
[Select]
The [Select Device Type] dialog box is displayed, and you can select the device type.
[Next]
The [Port Details] dialog box is displayed.
Note
Up to 64 application-enabled ports can be set including those for which the settings are waiting to be updated.
In [Port Name], you cannot use a Tab code and following characters:
\ , @
If the device type cannot be obtained when [iW Desktop Supported Device] in the [Select Device Type] dialog box is selected and [Next] in the [Create Port] dialog box is clicked, this message is displayed. Click [OK] and configure the port settings in the [Port Details] dialog box.
If [Discover Devices on Network] is selected as the procedure for adding the port, be wary of the following.
The IP addresses of devices found in the search are displayed in [IP Address or Host Name]. Or, IP addresses which begin with "OM_" are displayed as the port name.
The device type of the devices found in the search are displayed in [Device Type].
When you enter characters used in other languages or countries/areas than specified in the OS settings, the characters may not be displayed correctly.
If the device is not configured for communication or the device information cannot be properly obtained, [Device Type] is left blank.
