Checking the Dial Tone Before Sending

The following redirection problem may occur with certain kinds of fax machines on the market made by companies other than Canon. The Check Dial Tone Before Sending mode prevents this rare occurrence from happening. If you are sending a fax document from your machine at the same time another fax machine (made by a company other than Canon) is trying to send you a fax, your fax document may end up being redirected to that fax machine, instead of the original destination you had intended. Setting the Check Dial Tone Before Sending mode to 'On' enables you to avoid such sending problems.
For information on the optional products required to use this function, see "Optional Products Required for Each Function."
This mode is not available in some regions.

Press (Settings/Registration).
Press [Function Settings] → [Send] → [Fax Settings].
Press [Check Dial Tone Before Sending].
Press [On] → [OK].
Select [Off] if you do not want to check the dial tone before sending.
The Check Dial Tone Before Sending mode is enabled only after you restart the machine (the main power switch is turned OFF, and then back ON). For instructions on restarting the machine (turning the main power switch OFF, and then ON), see "How to Turn ON the Main Power."
If the phone line your machine is using is connected to a PBX or network adapter, you may not be able to send faxes if the Check Dial Tone Before Sending mode is set to 'On'.
