Settings That Can Be Specified From the Operation Panel

Special Mode	Options	Details
Special Mode U	Off, On	Depending on the paper type (especially when using thick paper) or environment (especially in dry environments), you could see the spots of scattered toner around the text or patterns. In this case, set this setting to <On>. If you use this mode, printing quality may become lower depending on the paper type (especially when using thin paper) or environment (especially in wet environments).
Special Mode V	Off, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3	Depending on the paper type or environment, vertical streaks may appear on printed paper. In this case, change this setting. The effect becomes greater as the number goes up. <Off> -> <Mode 1> -> <Mode 2> -> <Mode 3> (low) (high) Change of paper type or environment may reduce the curl or wrinkle problem, even without changing the setting. This setting is available when <Paper Size> is set to <B5>, <A5>, <STMT>, or <EXEC> <Paper Type> is set to <Plain (16 lb Bond-24 lb Bond)>, <Plain L (16 lb Bond-24 lb Bond)>, <Recycled>, <Color>, <Rough 1 (16 lb Bond-24 lb Bond)>, or <Envelope> As you select an option that has stronger effect, printing speed becomes slower.
Special Mode Z	Copy: Off, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3, Mode 4 Fax: Off, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3, Mode 4	Depending on the paper type or environment, vertical streaks may appear on printed paper. In this case, change this setting. The level of improvement according to the setting option is as following. <Off> -> <Mode 1> -> <Mode 2> -> <Mode 3> -> <Mode 4> (low) (high) Change of paper type or environment may reduce the streaks, even without changing the setting. As you select an option that has stronger effect, printing density becomes lower. Outlines of printed text or images may be less clear, or images may be slightly jagged.
Special Mode B	Off, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3	After replacing the toner cartridge or when using a toner cartridge after a long time, vertical streaks may appear on printed documents. In this case, change this setting. The level of improvement according to the setting option is as following. <Off> -> <Mode 1> -> <Mode 2> -> <Mode 3>     (low) (high) Even without changing the setting, the streaks may be reduced. As you select an option that has stronger effect, printing speed becomes slower.
Special Mode C (Only when printing received fax documents)	Off, On	Depending on the paper type or environment, vertical streaks may appear on printed documents. In this case, set one of these settings to <On>. You can also reduce the printing noise by set these settings to <On>. Change of paper type or environment may reduce the curl or wrinkle problem, even without changing the setting. These modes are more effective than <Special Mode Z>, however, printing speed becomes slow. These modes have higher priority than <Special Mode Z>.
Special Mode D	Copy: Off, On Print: Off, On
Special Mode I	Off, On	Depending on the paper type (especially when using thin or curled paper), paper jams may occur frequently when performing 2-sided printing. In this case, set this setting to <On>. If you use this mode when you are not using thin paper, images may become white.
Special Mode J	Off, On	Printed paper may be spotted when printing thin lines or light images. In this case, set this setting to <On>. If you use this mode, the following problems may occur. The output is less fine. Toner smears even on unnecessary parts. Toner consumption increases.
Special Mode K	Off, On	Depending on the environment (especially in low temperature environments), toner may not be fixed sufficiently and output may be less clear. In this case, set this setting to <On>. Change of environment may improve the toner fixation, even without changing the setting. If you use this mode, printing speed becomes slow.

Press [] (Menu).

Press [] or [] to highlight <Adjustment/Maintenance>, and then press [OK].

Press [] or [] to highlight <Special Processing>, and then press [OK].

Special Print Adjustment	Off, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3, Mode 4	Depending on the paper type or environment, vertical streaks may appear on printed documents. In this case, change this setting. The effect becomes greater as the number goes up. [Off] -> [Mode 1] -> [Mode 2] -> [Mode 3] -> [Mode 4] (low)                                                              (high) Change of paper type or environment may reduce the smudging problems, even without changing the setting. The more effective the setting becomes, the lower the density. Additionally, the outline of text and images may be reproduced less clearly, and images may appear slightly jagged.
Special Print Mode	Off, Special Settings1, Special Settings 2	[Off] Prints without applying the special print mode. [Special Settings 1] If barcodes printed with your machine cannot be read, set this setting to [Special Settings 1] to reduce the problem. When [Special Settings 1] is selected, printing density is lower than when [Off] is selected. Also, text or lines may be less clear. If you use this mode when you are not using thin paper, images may become white. [Special Settings 2] When printing high contrast documents, outlines of printed text or image may become white. Set this setting to [Special Settings 2] to reduce the problem. When [Special Settings 2] is selected, printing density is lower than when [Off] or [Special Settings 1] is selected. Also, text or lines may be less clear.
