Desktop Editor Error Codes

If an error code is displayed while you are using Desktop Editor, take the steps described in this section to resolve the problem. This section provides short descriptions of common error codes and what to do when then are displayed.

In some cases, it may not be possible to resolve the problem with the steps described here.

EBDV3

Could not retrieve configuration information from printer.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	Failed to obtain device information.
Remedy	Check the status of the printer. Update the printer driver to the latest version. Reinstall the printer driver.

Could not print because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during print processing.
Remedy	Check the status of the printer. Update the printer driver to the latest version. Reinstall the printer driver.

EBNDxxx

Could not move the chapters because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during chapter movement processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not delete the chapters because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during chapter deletion processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not add a new chapter because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during chapter addition processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not create document because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An error occurred during document creation.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not create preview image.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	Creation of a preview screen failed.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Check whether there is a problem with the original page.

EBNL5

Some pages ({1}) could not be imported because the width or height of the paper exceeds 1200 mm (47 1/4 in). (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	The file exceeds the page size that Desktop Editor can handle. Open the file with the corresponding application, and convert it to an IWB document using Desktop Document Writer to reduce the size automatically, and then import it.

EBOT241
EBOT255

Could not print because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	The imported PDF document is invalid.
Remedy	Open the PDF document with Adobe Reader, convert it to a PDF document with Desktop Document Writer, and then import it to Desktop Editor again to print it.
Cause	The hard disk space of the computer using Desktop is insufficient.
Remedy	After ensuring that there is sufficient hard disk space, print from Desktop Editor again.

ECDC3

Could not retrieve print settings from printer.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An error occurs when opening a Canon printer driver SDK.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Reinstall the printer driver.

EICU22

Could not retrieve configuration information from printer.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	Printer information could not be acquired.
Remedy	Check the status of the printer. Update the printer driver to the latest version. Reinstall the printer driver.

EIDI1

Could not import several original documents. Check the [Original Documents]. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Execute the import again.

Could not import this file. The file format is not supported or the page size is too small. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Desktop Editor does not support that file.

Could not import because password entry was canceled.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Enter the correct password and execute the import again.

Cannot find the file. It may have been moved or deleted by another user. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Execute the import again.

Cannot import file because its file path is too long. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Move the file to another location and execute the import again.

Applications that can open this file are not installed. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Using the procedure below, create an IWB document and execute the import again. 1. Open the document with the application associated with the document. 2. In the application, select [Canon Desktop Document Writer] as the printer and perform printing.

Could not convert this file. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Execute the import again. From the application that created the file, specify Desktop Document Writer as the printer and execute the print process to create an iwb file.

EIDOxxx

Could not export as a PDF document because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	Conversion to PDF failed while exporting a PDF file.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. You cannot export an IWB document as a PDF if the size of it is 2 GB or larger. If it is over 2 GB, specify the ranges of pages to export as a PDF, and export them separately.

Could not print because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during print processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. You cannot print large IWB documents. If the document is over 2 GB, specify a range of pages to print that is under 2 GB, then print the document over several installments.

EITExxx

Could not open imageWARE Document File because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An iwd file could not be opened.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Check whether the version of the iwd file supports Desktop Editor, or check whether the iwd file is not corrupted.

Could not open the document because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An error occurred while opening an IWB document.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Check whether the IWB file is not corrupted.

Could not move the page because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during page movement processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not rotate the page because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during page rotation processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not delete the page because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unknown error occurred during page deletion processing.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Could not redo because an error occurred.

Cause	An unknown error occurred during redo processing for an operation.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor.

Remedy	Close the file and execute the import again.

Cause	Creation of a new IWB document failed immediately after starting.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Carry out a repair installation of Desktop and start it again.

You do not have permission to access this document.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Grant permission to access the file and execute the import again.

Could not process the operation because there is insufficient memory.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A memory shortage occurred.
Remedy	Check the amount of free memory, and exit applications that you are not using. Try the operation again.

Could not process the operation because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unexpected error occurred.
Remedy	Try the operation again.

Could not save the document because an error occurred.

Cause	An unexpected error occurred while saving a document.
Remedy	Save the document again. Restart Desktop Editor.

This document is being edited.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	The document is currently opened by another user.
Remedy	Close the document opened on the computer of the other user.
Cause	The document is not currently opened by another user, but the computer considers it to still be opened
Remedy	Wait over 10 seconds, and then open the document again.

EPDM162

This file contains security settings that are not supported. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Disable security functions and execute the import again.

EPDM255

Could not convert this file. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	Could not import a PDF file to Desktop Editor because it was invalid.
Remedy	Open the PDF file with Adobe Reader, print it with Desktop Document Writer, and then import it in Desktop Editor again.

EPDMxxx

Could not attach the digital stamp because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unexpected error occurred while inserting a digital stamp.
Remedy	Paste the digital stamp again. Restart Desktop Editor.

EWCM102

Canon Desktop Document Writer is not installed. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Carry out a repair installation of Desktop.

EWCM201

Too many objects included in this file. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	A file import failed.
Remedy	Divide the file and import it in several installments.

EWCM1300

Could not convert this file. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	An error occurred while importing with Word.
Remedy	Change any of the following optional settings for Word, and then import the file into Desktop Editor again. Select [Basic Settings] > [Microsoft Office User Settings], and enter characters other than a space into [Basic Settings] and [Initial] Select [Advanced Settings] > [Print], and deselect the [Print in background] check box

EWCM1401

Could not convert this file. (Message ID: {0})

Cause	An error occurred while importing with Excel.
Remedy	You cannot import Excel files with the following settings. The document contains macros and the security level is set to "high" The document contains macros that do not function properly in the application The document contains a hidden sheet The document contains an empty formatted sheet To import these files, either disable macros or delete the empty/hidden sheet.

EWIP4

Could not start Editor.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	Desktop Editor could not be started.
Remedy	Restart Desktop Editor. Carry out a repair installation of Desktop and start it again.

OLExxxxx

An error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An error occurred while exiting Desktop Editor.
Remedy	Check whether Desktop Editor has stopped.

VRE_0005

Could not read the database file because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unexpected error occurred while reading the database file.
Remedy	Try specifying the database again.

VRE_0008

Could not create preview image because there is insufficient memory.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A memory shortage occurred during creation of the preview image.
Remedy	Check the amount of free memory, and exit applications that you are not using. Save the document again.

VRE_0009

Could not create preview image.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unexpected error occurred while creating the preview image.
Remedy	Save the document again.

VRE_0012

Could not read the database file because there is insufficient memory.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A memory shortage occurred while reading the database file.
Remedy	Check the amount of free memory, and exit applications that you are not using. Try specifying the database again.

VRE_0015

Could not apply the mail merge print settings because an error occurred.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	An unexpected error occurred while saving the document.
Remedy	Save the document again.

VRE_0016

Could not apply the mail merge print settings because there is insufficient memory.
Message ID: {0}

Cause	A memory shortage occurred while saving the document.
Remedy	Check the amount of free memory, and exit applications that you are not using. Save the document again.
