Migration Preparations

To use a user settings file to migrate a Desktop environment, it is necessary to make the target environment the same as the source environment.
Drivers
Install the printer, fax, and scanner, etc. drivers used in the source environment in the target environment. When installing a fax driver, also register the address book.
NOTE
Make sure that the names of printers, fax machines, and scanners are the same in the target environment and source environment.
Fonts
Install the same fonts as the source environment.
Locations of Shared Folders and Image/Sound Files, Etc.
The Import & Export Tool migrates the settings for shared folders and image/sound files, etc. Even when migrating to an environment that uses a different operating system, settings can be migrated to the "My Documents" folder (Windows 7/Windows 8.1) and "Document" folder (Windows 10) created by Windows.
NOTE
It is recommended that you set a path that does not depend on the environment for shared folders.
Files are not moved in the following cases. In these cases, manually move the files and register them using Desktop again.
When a file is saved in a location that cannot be accessed
When the file path is too long
Local Folders
Since folders and files are not moved, local libraries and hot folders used in the source environment should be backed up.
Libraries
Cancel the registered libraries from Desktop in the source environment.
Back up the folders that were used as libraries, and after migrating the settings, copy them to the destination computer and register them as libraries again.
Hot Folder
Back up each Hot Folder that was set locally (source folders/target folders), and after migrating the settings, copy them to the destination computer.
NOTE
Files under the "My Documents" folder (Windows 7/Windows 8.1) and "Document" folder (Windows 10) created by Windows in the source environment should be placed under the corresponding folder created by Windows in the target environment.
Returning and Transferring Licenses
Return or transfer the Desktop license before migration.
NOTE
For information on license management operations, see "Software License Registration Guide".
