Replacing the Drum Unit

When the drum unit is nearing the end of its lifetime, a message prompting you to replace the drum unit is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Press the icon at the right bottom of the screen.
Store drum units in a location away from light sources such as direct sunlight.
Storing the drum unit in a room that is cold but rapidly heated, or has other rapid temperature changes, causes water droplets (condensation) to form inside it.
Do not remove the orange-colored protective cover until you are instructed to do so in the following procedure.

The drum unit replacement message displayed at the bottom of the screen differs depending on your contract.
Press <Close> when you are finished with drum unit replacement.

Procedure for Replacing the Drum Unit

Follow the following procedures to replace the drum unit.

Press the button on the cover on the left side of the main unit and open the cover on the left side of the main unit by 50 mm or more.

Open the front cover.
Hold the right and left edges of the cover when opening it.

Slowly turn the lock release lever.
When turning the lock release lever, be careful to avoid bumping your hand against the grip of the toner cartridge.

Turn the screw until it is completely undone.

While gripping the handle of the drum unit, pull the unit out slightly upward.
After the drum unit has been removed, be careful not to put your hand in the slot and be sure to avoid contact with the inside of the cover on the left side of the main unit and the machine to prevent burns and other injury.

Remove the new drum unit from the package.
Do not remove the protective cover of the drum unit at this point.

Hold the protective cover of the drum unit, and align it with the slots inside the main unit.

Wrap your hand as shown in the diagram while supporting the protective cover () and push the drum unit into the machine ().

Remove the protective cover of the drum unit.

Tighten the screw.

Slowly turn the lock release lever to the vertical position.

Close the front cover and the cover on the left side of the main unit.
If the front cover will not close, check that you have not forgotten to tighten the drum unit screw and check the position of the lock release lever.

Perform the following operations using the control panel.
Press . Go to <Adjustment/Maintenance> <Maintenance> <Initialize After Replacing Parts>. Press <Yes> in <Drum Unit>. Check that <Initialized.> is displayed and then press <Close>.
After the replacement is complete, put the used drum unit in the bag that contained the new drum unit, and store it until the local authorized Canon dealer comes to collect it.
