Operating Cautions

This section describes cautions regarding using the inspection system.

System Requirements

Since the Inspection Tool processes a large amount of image data, it needs to be able to fully use the performance of the computer processor. Therefore, the Inspection Tool might not operate correctly if another application is running at the same time.

Computer Fan Noise

The computer that runs the Inspection Tool is configured to have the fan run faster than a typical computer in order to prevent the computer from getting hot. Because of this, the fan noise is louder.
Do not change the fan speed, because the computer and Inspection Tool might not function correctly if you reduce the fan speed.

For paper where the width exceeds 11.9"

In the case of paper with width (main scanning direction) of 11.9" or more, image portions at right and left sides of the paper cannot be inspected. Images within the 11.9" range in the center of the paper can be inspected.
When paper like this is used, folded corners might not be detected if they occur. Furthermore, if there are overlapping folded parts in the area subject to inspection, it may be detected as streaks. (Folded corners that occur in paper with width of 11.9" or less will be detected as "Inspection Error".)
When paper like this is used, a diagonal line pattern as shown below is displayed in the areas that cannot be inspected on each side of the paper on each of the screens that display images.
: Paper width of 11.9" or more
: 11.9"

Images with Few Edge Features

When images with few edge features are inspected, errors might occur frequently or output paper might be frequently judged as defective. This is because the position alignment between the master image and the image to be inspected cannot be performed correctly.
Examples of images with few edge features:
Images where there is text, etc. in only a very small part of a blank page
Images that only have light gradation
In this kind of situation, perform any of the following handling depending on the characteristics of the images and the purpose of printing.
Add crop marks or trim marks to clarify the position of the image.
Reduce the inspection level of the area that contains the corresponding image.
Exclude the area that contains the corresponding image from inspection.

Detection of Defects (Spots and Streaks) in Images

Defects such as spots and streaks might not be detected depending on the image contrast and the characteristics of the image. The defect detection function of the inspection system is not guaranteed to detect all visible streaks or spots as defects.
