Registering a New Paper Type
You can adjust the secondary transfer voltage (voltage when the image is transferred onto the paper) and the print position according to the characteristics of the loaded paper, and register the settings as a new paper type (custom paper type).
If print quality degradation occurs with a certain paper type, you may be able to solve the problem by using a custom paper type that has been adjusted according to the characteristics of the paper.
Registering the Paper Loaded in a Paper Drawer
Use the control panel to register a new paper type. You cannot register a new paper type using Remote UI from a computer.
Required Preparations
Load paper to be registered in a paper drawer.

On the control panel, press [

Settings/Registration] in the [Home] screen or other screen.
[Home] ScreenThe [Settings/Registration] screen is displayed.

Press [Preferences]

[Paper Settings]

[Paper Settings].
The [Paper Settings] screen is displayed.

Select the paper source with the loaded paper to register, and press [Adjust/Register New Paper].

Select the paper size of the loaded paper.
When Registering Standard Size Paper

When Registering Custom Size Paper

Press [Custom].

Enter the values in [X] and [Y], and press [OK].
Press [X] and [Y] to select them, and enter the values.
When frequently used custom size paper is registered, you can call this up by pressing [S1] to [S5].
When Registering Envelopes

Press [Envelope].

Select the size of the envelopes.

Press [OK].
Depending on the size of the envelopes, [Next] may appear. Press [Next], enter the envelope flap length, and then press [OK].

Press [Next].

Select the paper type of the loaded paper.
If the Loaded Paper Type Is Not Displayed
Select [All] in the pulldown menu at the top left of the screen, and select the paper type from the displayed list.
* If the loaded paper type is not displayed in the list, register the paper type.

Press [Next].

Adjust the secondary transfer voltage.
Depending on the paper size and paper type, you cannot adjust the secondary transfer voltage. Proceed to Step
9.

Press [Start Printing].
The chart is printed.

Load the chart in the feeder or on the platen glass.
The location where to load the chart varies depending on the size and type of paper. Follow the instructions on the screen to load the chart.

Press [Start Scanning].
The chart is scanned, and adjustment is performed.
If you placed the chart on the platen glass, follow the instructions on the screen to place the chart on the platen glass again, and press [Start Scanning].
Adjust the print position.
The print position cannot be adjusted for some sizes and types of paper. Proceed to Step
10.
When Using the Feeder to Scan

Press [Start Printing].
A test page is printed.

Follow the instructions on the screen to load the test page in the feeder.

Press [Start Scanning].
The test page is scanned, and adjustment is performed.
When Using the Platen Glass to Scan

Press [Start Printing].
A test page is printed.

Press [Output Guide Sheet].

Select the paper source loaded with usable paper, and press [Start Printing].
The guide sheet is printed.

Open the feeder.

Follow the instructions on the screen to place the test page and guide sheet on the platen glass.

Gently close the feeder.

Press [Start Scanning].

Repeat Steps 4 to 7 to scan the test page four times.
The test page is scanned, and adjustment is performed.

Remove the test page and guide sheet from the platen glass.
Press [Name], enter the name of the custom type, and press [OK].
Enter a name that does not conflict with any other existing paper type.

Press [OK].
The paper type is registered.
Registering the Paper Loaded in the Multi-purpose Tray
By default, when paper is loaded in the multi-purpose tray, the screen for setting the paper is displayed on the control panel.
Use the control panel to register a new paper type. You cannot register a new paper type using Remote UI from a computer.
Required Preparations
Load paper to be registered in the multi-purpose tray.

Press [Adjust/Register New Paper].

Select the paper size of the loaded paper.
When Registering Standard Size Paper

When Registering Custom Size Paper

Press [Custom].
If you do not know the size (length of side) of the paper, or you want to print using the paper size set in the printer driver, press [Free Size]

[OK].

Enter the values in [X] and [Y], and press [OK].
Press [X] and [Y] to select them, and enter the values.
When frequently used custom size paper is registered, you can call this up by pressing [S1] to [S5].
When Registering Envelopes

Press [Envelope].

Select the orientation and size of the envelopes.
Press [Long Edge Feed] or [Short Edge Feed] according to the orientation of the envelopes, and select the envelope size.
When using custom size envelopes, select [Custom].
When printing on the back side of a printed envelope, select [2nd Side of 2-Sided Page].

Press [OK].
Depending on the orientation and size of the envelopes, [Next] may appear. Press [Next], enter the flap length or size (length of side) of the envelopes, and then press [OK].
When Registering Long Sheet Paper

Press [Standard Size]

[Other Size].

Select the size of the Long Sheet paper, and press [OK].

Select the paper type of the loaded paper.
When Performing Auto-Recognition for the Paper Type During Printing

Press [Auto-Recog. When Printing]

[Next].
The machine recognizes the basis weight and finish of the paper loaded in the multi-purpose tray, and automatically sets the most similar paper type from among those already registered in the machine.
Paper Types That Can Be Detected AutomaticallyIn the printer driver settings, set [Paper Source] to [Multi-purpose Tray], and set [Paper Type] to [Auto].
* Depending on the printer driver, the corresponding settings may not be available.
* If you set a specific paper type in the printer driver, press [Select from List] and manually configure the paper type setting for the machine. Do not use [Auto-Recog. When Printing].
The machine may print with a different paper type setting than that of the loaded paper.
If [Auto-Recog. When Printing] is selected, the multi-purpose tray cannot be specified when you print the test page with [Adjust Image Quality].
When Setting the Paper Type Manually

Select the type of loaded paper.
If the Loaded Paper Type Is Not Displayed
Select [All] in the pulldown menu at the top left of the screen, and select the paper type from the displayed list.
* If the loaded paper type is not displayed in the list, register the paper type.
