Using the Address Book Diagnostic Tool

The Address Book Diagnostic Tool diagnoses whether a printer is configured to retrieve/distribute address books with this software and configures the required settings.
Use it to identify the cause if this software fails to back up/distribute address books.
NOTE
The Address Book Diagnostic Tool supports the following printers.
Type I printers that support Address Book Management

Diagnosing a Printer

You can use the Address Book Diagnostic Tool to check the settings of a printer.
1.
Log on to the computer where the Manager or Agent is running.
2.
Launch the Address Book Diagnostic Tool.
Double-click the following file.
If both the Manager and Agent are running in the computer:
%ProgramFiles%\Canon\EMC\Manager\agent\abdiag.exe
If only the Agent is running in the computer:
%ProgramFiles%\Canon\EMC\Agent\abdiag.exe
IMPORTANT
abdiag.exe may not operate correctly if it has been moved from the above location.
3.
Specify the printer to retrieve the information from.
Enter the IP address or host name of the printer in [IP Address].
In [SNMP], select the SNMP version set in the target printer.
Enter SNMP information with write privileges, according to the selected version.
Click [Retrieve Information].
4.
Check the printer information that was retrieved.
If [Valid] is displayed in [Status]
Proceed to step 5.
If [Invalid] is displayed in [Status]
Enable the Web service of the printer.
For details, see the following.
NOTE
The logs displayed on this screen contain information needed by the manufacturer if an investigation is required.
5.
Enter the authentication information of the printer.
Items are displayed according to the authentication method set in the printer.
If [Basic Authentication] Is Displayed
In [System Manager ID], enter the System Manager ID set in the printer.
In [System Manager PIN], set the System PIN set in the printer.
Click [Export Test].
If [Authentication Method] Is Displayed
If [Domain Name] is displayed, perform the following operation.
If Domain Authentication Is Not Used
Leave [Domain Name] blank. If authentication fails, enter 'localhost'.
If Domain Authentication Is Used
If [Basic] or [Basic2] is selected in the drop-down list, leave [Domain Name] blank.
If [NTLM] is selected in the drop-down list, enter 'localhost' in [Domain Name].
In [User Name], enter the user name of a local user with administrator privileges that is set in the printer.
In [Password], enter the password of the user that you entered.
Click [Export Test].
6.
Check the displayed message.
If the Following Message Is Displayed in a Blue Box
"An address list was retrieved from the device. (Bytes:<number of bytes>)"
The address book was confirmed to be retrievable from the printer.
Register the authentication information entered in step 5 to this software.

Close the Address Book Diagnostic Tool.
If a Message with E211, E212, or E213 in Parentheses Is Displayed in a Red Box
If such a message is displayed when the [Domain Name] field is displayed and the correct user name and password of a user with administrator privileges has been entered, enter 'localhost' in the [Domain Name] field and click [Export Test] again.
If the message is still displayed, check the user name and password of a user with administrator privileges and enter the correct information.
If a Message Other Than the Above Is Displayed in a Red Box
The address book could not be retrieved from the printer.
Check the displayed message, and perform the indicated remedy.

Enabling the Web Service of the Printer

The Web service of the printer must be enabled to manage the address book of the printer using this software. If [Invalid] is displayed in the [Status] field when [Retrieve Information] is clicked in the Address Book Diagnostic Tool, perform the following operation.
1.
Configure the MIB access privileges on the printer side.
These settings are required to enable the Web service of the printer using the Address Book Diagnostic Tool.
On the printer, press  (Settings/Registration) > [Preferences] > [Network] > [SNMP Settings] > [Set Dedicated Community].
Select [Read/Write] in [MIB Access Permis.], and press [OK].
2.
Launch the Address Book Diagnostic Tool.
3.
Specify the printer to retrieve the information from.
Enter the IP address or host name of the printer in [IP Address].
Select [Version 1] in [SNMP], and select [Use a dedicated community].
Click [Retrieve Information].
4.
Click [Enable Web Service].
5.
Check the displayed message.
If the Following Message Is Displayed in a Blue Box
"The web service has been enabled.
If a message is displayed on the device control panel, restart the device."
Click [OK].
If a message prompting you to restart the printer is displayed on the control panel of the printer, restart the printer.
Return to step 5 of "Diagnosing a Printer."
If a Message Is Displayed in a Red Box
Check the displayed message, and perform the indicated remedy.
