Migration Preparations

To use a user settings file to migrate a Desktop environment, it is necessary to make the target environment the same as the source environment.
Migrating My Library
Items that Cannot Be Migrated
Items Not Migrated When Distributing Settings
Drivers
Install the printer, fax, and scanner, etc. drivers used in the source environment in the target environment. When installing a fax driver, also register the address book.
Fonts
Install the same fonts as the source environment.
Locations of Shared Folders and Image/Sound Files, Etc.
The Import & Export Tool migrates the settings for shared folders and image/sound files, etc. Even when migrating to an environment that uses a different operating system, settings can be migrated to the "My Documents" folder (Windows 7/8/8.1) and "Document" folder (Windows Vista) created by Windows.
NOTE
It is recommended that you set a path that does not depend on the environment for shared folders.
Files are not moved in the following cases. In these cases, manually move the files and register them using Desktop again.
When a file is saved in a location that cannot be accessed
When the file path is too long
Local Folders
Since folders and files are not moved, local libraries and hot folders used in the source environment should be backed up.
Libraries
Cancel the registered libraries from Desktop in the source environment.
Back up the folders that were used as libraries, and after migrating the settings, copy them to the destination computer and register them as libraries again.
Hot Folder
Back up each Hot Folder that was set locally (source folders/target folders), and after migrating the settings, copy them to the destination computer.
NOTE
Files under the "My Documents" folder (Windows 7/8/8.1) and "Document" folder (Windows Vista) created by Windows in the source environment should be placed under the corresponding folder created by Windows in the target environment.
Returning and Transferring Licenses
Return or transfer the Desktop license before migration.
NOTE
For information on license management operations, see "Software License Registration Guide".

Migrating My Library

"My Library" is the Personal Library that is created when you start Desktop Browser for the first time. Care must be taken when migrating the settings, because the status of My Library in the desired location differs depending on certain conditions.
NOTE
The My Library data is created immediately below the "My Documents" folder (Windows 7/8/8.1) or "Document" folder (Windows Vista).
If Desktop is not installed in the target environment
Data contained in My Library is not migrated. Copy the data from the source environment to My Library in the target environment.
If Desktop is already installed in the target environment
When migrating settings, if the user name in the source environment is different from that in the target environment, My Library will no longer be registered in Desktop.
The My Library folder itself remains on Windows, so register the library in Desktop again. If you are migrating data, copy the data from the source environment to the library in the target environment.
NOTE
If no My Library folder exists in the target environment, create a folder and register it as a library in Desktop again. You may be required to update settings when using a Document Destination Folder.

Items that Cannot Be Migrated

The following user settings are not migrated, regardless of the migration method.
Library authentication information (including cache)
Input history such as addresses and search keywords
Files in the check out folder (files being checked out)
Personal Button
Address Book
License information
Setting information for hot folders and transfer destinations
IMPORTANT
If the above items were already set in the target computer, the default values are restored when you execute the migration. Set/register them again as required.

Items Not Migrated When Distributing Settings

In "Distributing Settings", or when user settings are imported to a Desktop environment with a different user name as the source environment, the following items cannot be migrated.
Buttons set in the output bar
Documents in My Tray
The status of the file list in folders monitored by Document Monitor/Printer Monitor, print logs, fax transmission logs, and received fax logs
IMPORTANT
Libraries, hot folders, Personal buttons, etc. set with a local path in the source environment are not migrated. Also, information registered in the destination Desktop is replaced by the default values when you distribute the settings. Set/register them again as required.
