Installing RAM/ROM

RAM:
RAM is installed in the main board of the printer unit using the following procedure.
ROM:
This printer has PS ROM installed at the factory. If you want to install the optional PS/Barcode ROM A-45, first remove the PS ROM module by following the procedure in "Removing RAM or ROM".
NOTE
A Phillips screwdriver is required.
Have a screwdriver ready that matches the size of the screws for the slot cover.

Turn the printer OFF, then disconnect the cables or cords from the printer.
Shut down the printer before turning it OFF.
For details on the procedure for shutting down the printer, see "Turning the Printer ON/OFF."
<How to disconnect the cable or cord>
USB cable*
(2) Turn the computer OFF.
(3) Disconnect the cable from the printer.
LAN cable*
(4) Disconnect the cable from the printer.
Power cord
(5) Disconnect the power plug from the AC power outlet.
(6) Disconnect the cord from the printer.

Whether the cable is connected or not varies depending on your environment.

Remove the right cover.
(1)
While holding the tab (A), open the cover a little.
(2)
Remove the cover in the direction of the arrow.

Remove the slot cover.
(1)
Remove the two screws.
(2)
Open the slot cover.
(3)
Remove the cover in the direction of the arrow.
NOTE
About the locations for installing RAM and ROM
Confirm the installation locations and their orientations before installing the RAM and ROM modules.

Install RAM and ROM.
When installing RAM
(1)
Aligning the projection (A) with the notch (B), insert the RAM module horizontally into the slot.
(2)
Push the RAM module into the printer firmly. The RAM module is fixed by the levers (C) on the left and right.
IMPORTANT
If the module is installed properly
The connector (D) of the RAM module is inserted to the position shown in the figure.
If the RAM module is not inserted into the slot as shown in the figure, see "Removing RAM or ROM" and remove the RAM module once.
When installing ROM
NOTE
If you want to install the optional PS/Barcode ROM A-45, first remove the PS ROM module by following the procedure in "Removing RAM or ROM."
Push the ROM module into the printer firmly while aligning the module with the two connectors.

Attach the slot cover.

Attach the slot cover.
(2)
Close the cover.
(3)
Attach and fasten the two screws.

Attach the right cover.
(1)
Attach the right cover.
(2)
Close the cover.
Next, perform the following procedures. (If you want to install the paper feeder, follow the procedure in "Installing the Paper Feeder.")
If you install the printer, RAM, and ROM at the same time

Connect the power cord.

Load paper.

Specifying a type of printer driver.

Connecting to a computer.

Install the printer driver.

Check the printing operation.
Check the operations by Test Page in Windows.

Check the RAM or ROM installation.

Specify the settings for the ROM module as needed.
Specify the settings in the menu functions.

When using the PCL printer driver, specify the settings for the RAM module.
With the [Device Settings] sheet in the printer driver, specify the capacity of the installed RAM module.
If you installed RAM and ROM afterward (If you are using the printer already)

Connect the cables and cords.
Connect the removed cables and cords again.

Check the RAM or ROM installation.

Specify the settings for the ROM module as needed.
Specify the settings in the menu functions.
