PDF Files with a Digital Signature

This mode enables you to store PDF files with the following digital signatures attached:
Device Signature
User Signature
Visible Signatures
For information on the optional products required to use this function, see "Optional Products Required for Each Function."
As an example, the procedure for selecting memory media as the storage location is explained in this section.
NOTE
You can only add device signatures to PDF files and store them if you have generated a device signature certificate and key pair. (See "Generating and Confirming a Key Pair and Device Signature Certificate and User Certificate for Adding Digital Signatures to PDF or XPS Files.")
The following conditions are necessary to add a user signature to a PDF file:
SSO-H login service must be set for the machine
A user certificate must be installed in the machine using the Remote UI (See "Installing a Certificate File.")

NOTE
If you select to add both a device signature and user signature, the device signature is added before the user signature.
If a PDF file that has multiple signatures added to it is verified using software such as Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat, only the last signature added to the file remains valid. Other signatures are treated as though the file was altered by adding another signature.
For information on validating certificates, registering certificates in the trusted certificates list, and verifying signatures on the recipient side, see the documentation for the PDF software (such as Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat).
If you set [Optimize PDF for Web] to 'On', you can select only one of device signature, user signature or Reader Extensions. (See "Optimize PDF for Web.")
The PDF file contains sender information that the recipient of the file can use to validate the reliability of the device signature by matching it with the MD5 or SHA-1 message digest number. You can verify this information in [Cert. Thumbprint (SHA1)] on this machine. (See "Generating and Confirming a Key Pair and Device Signature Certificate and User Certificate for Adding Digital Signatures to PDF or XPS Files.")
With a device signature, SSO-H authentication is set for the machine. If an e-mail address is registered for the user, the [Author] property of the PDF file is set to the e-mail address of the user when adding the device signature.
For information on the certificate authority that issues the User Certificate for each user compatible with this machine, see the notice included with the optional product.
Note the following regarding visible signatures.
You can specify the settings only when device signature or user signature is set for the PDF.
You cannot specify the settings when [Format PDF to PDF/A] is set to 'On'. (See "Format PDF as PDF/A.")
For information on the modes which cannot be set in combination with the various digital certificate modes, see "Combination of Functions Chart."
