[Advanced Settings] Dialog Box ([Quality] Tab)

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to resolution. Prints contours smoothly. This setting is suitable for printing general documents and graphics (text and diagrams) etc.

[Gradation]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to gradation. This setting is suitable for printing smooth gradations.

[Error Diffusion]

Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to error diffusion, which is excellent for representing subtlety. This setting is suitable for printing small text and fine lines.

[Halftones] (Black and White)

Enables you to specify dither patterns for representing halftones (areas between dark areas and light areas).

[Get Calibration Information When Printing]

Obtains calibration information from the printer each time you output a document.

[Toner Save]

Thins out the print data to save toner.

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Toner Density] → [Adjust]

[Toner Density]

Enables you to adjust the toner density. This function is useful when you want to save toner, and to adjust the toner density when printing bar codes. If [Details] is displayed, you can adjust the density and perform fine adjustment of the density of each color in the [Toner Density Details] dialog box.

If you select [Printer Default], you may get an unintended print result depending on the setting at the printer. For example, setting [Printer Default] may result in lighter output than setting [-1 [Light]].

Depending on the printer model you are using, if [Store] or [Hold] is selected for [Output Method], you cannot perform fine adjustment of toner density in [Details].

Functions that cannot be used with this function: [Toner Save] → [On]

[Advanced Smoothing]

Creates smooth contours in text and lines, and prints smooth gradations. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].

[Toner Volume Adjustment]/[Toner Volume Correction]

Enables you to select the method for toner volume adjustment.

[Printer Default]

Uses the printer setting.

[Normal]

Uses the standard amount of toner.

[Gradation Priority]

Uses the optimum amount of toner for documents that contain many graphics or computer graphics which include gradations.

[Text Priority]

Uses the optimum amount of toner for documents that contain mainly text.

[Line Control]

Improves the reproducibility of text and lines. Select [Resolution Priority] to give priority to resolution, and [Gradation Priority] to give priority to gradation.

[Sharpness]

Enables you to adjust the sharpness of the contours of images.

[Sharpness (Photo)]

Sets the processing method for edges of low resolution images. Processes that can be set vary for each printer model.

[Use Printer Fonts]

Enables you to use the TrueType fonts that reside within the printer. Because the TrueType fonts are not downloaded with each print job, this results in higher printer performance.

[TrueType Mode]

Enables you to set the method used to print TrueType fonts.

[Download as TrueType]

Sends TrueType fonts directly to the printer where they are rasterized. Select this mode if your document contains a lot of text of various sizes.

[Download as Bit Image]

Rasterizes all TrueType fonts automatically and sends them as bitmapped data to the printer. Select this mode if your document contains mostly text.

[Dither Image Data on Device]

Performs dithering of image data at the device. This function is useful for improving the print quality of originals in which images and graphics using the same colors are superimposed.

[Density Fine Adjustment]

Enables you to adjust the print density for small-sized text and thin lines. This function is useful for correcting "cracks" in text and lines.

[Gray Compensation]

Enables you to reliably print gray and black data (R=G=B) in gray or black.

[Line Control [Gray Compensation]]

Enables you to select the toner density depending on the object (text, graphics, images) to prevent scattering and uneven application of toner.

[Gradation Smoothing]

Prints transitions between colors in gradations smoothly. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].

[Image Compression]

Enables you to adjust the print data compression ratio when sending print data to the printer. You can give priority to images or print speed.

[Image Compression Optimization]

Switches the print data compression method when sending it to the printer.

[Compression Processing for Data Transfer]

When compressing and transferring image data, enables you to switch between giving priority to image quality and giving priority to speed.

[Width Adjustment]

Adjust the thickness of specific objects such as text and lines.

[Trapping]

Performs an overlapping process at the borders between text or graphics and the background to prevent white lines around the edge portions of the text or graphics. When you select [On], click [Details] to set the trapping width and density.

Trapping is ineffective if the density of characters or graphics is light.

[Adjust Toner Volume Used for Color Printing]

By adjusting the amount of toner when printing in color, you can prevent too much toner being used and inhibit the following printing faults.

Toner spattering on dark areas of images

Afterimages of dark text or lines

Toner fixing errors in low temperature environments

Darkening when images printed on transparencies are projected

Bleed-through when copying 2-sided originals

[Off]

Print with the normal amount of toner.

[Level 1]

Slightly adjusts (reduces) the amount of toner in areas of strong color when printing.

[Level 2]

Adjusts (reduces) the amount of toner overall when printing.

[Use Driver Grayscale Conversion When B&W Printing]

If [Black and White] is selected for [Color Mode] in the [Basic Settings]/[Quality] sheet, printing is performed giving the printer driver grayscale conversion priority over the conversion of the application. Using this function, you can improve the image quality when printing color images in black and white.

[CanoFine]

Automatically adjusts the contrast and color balance of images to print distinct images. This function is useful for correcting dark photographs so that they are clear and vivid. When you select [On], click [Details] to configure detailed settings.

[Single-page Batch Processing]

Processes multiple bitmaps on a page as a single data item. Select this check box to print rotated images, or images with shapes cut out of them.

[Enhanced Saturation]

Emphasizes color intensity when processing.
