[Advanced Settings] Dialog Box ([Quality] Tab)
Enables you to configure detailed print quality settings. Select an item in the [List of Settings] list, then select a setting from the drop-down list.

[Graphics Mode]
Enables you to select a processing method for print data.
[LIPS Mode]
Print data is converted to data written as LIPS control commands and sent to the printer. Select [LIPS Mode] for normal situations.
[Raster Mode]
The print data is converted to image data (bitmap data) and sent to the printer. If images and their printed results differ when printing with LIPS mode or printing takes an exceptionally long time, select this mode.
[Mode Details]/[LIPS Mode Details]
Enables you to select a rasterizing mode.
[1 BPP] (Black and White only)
Replaces all parts other than white with black for characters and fine lines, and prints at high speed.
[High Speed]
Expresses gray gradation as halftones and prints at high speed.
[High Quality]
Takes longer to print than [1 BPP] and [High Speed], but prints very high quality documents.
[Resolution]
Enables you to select the print resolution.
[Gradation]
Sets the gradation for printing halftone images. [High 2] uses finer gradations than [High 1] to achieve a smoother result.
[Halftones] (Color)
Enables you to specify dither patterns for representing halftones (intermediate areas between dark and light areas).
[Printer Default]
Uses the printer setting.
[Resolution]
Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to resolution. Prints contours smoothly. This setting is suitable for printing general documents and graphics (text and diagrams) etc.
[Gradation]
Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to gradation. This setting is suitable for printing smooth gradations.
[Error Diffusion]
Uses a dither pattern that gives priority to error diffusion, which is excellent for achieving subtlety. This setting is suitable for printing small text and fine lines.
[Pattern 1]-[Pattern 7]
You can specify separate dither patterns for text (letters), graphic (lines and diagrams), and image (photographs etc.) data.

[Halftones] (Black and White)
Enables you to specify dither patterns for representing halftones (intermediate areas between dark and light areas).
[Printer Default]

[Host Side Rasterization]
Specifies whether color image data rasterization is performed by the printer driver to achieve improved output. However, this function can tie up the application for some time.

[Get Calibration Information When Printing]
Obtains calibration information from the printer each time you output a document.
[Enable Image Correction]
Enables you to smooth out low-resolution coarse image data in graphic images and photographs that have been enlarged in image-editing applications.

[Substitute TrueType Fonts with Printer Fonts]
Substitutes printer fonts for TrueType fonts. Substituted printer fonts are set from the [Device Settings] tab → [Font Settings] → [Font Substitution Table].

[Prioritize Application Settings for Substitution of TrueType Fonts]
If you want to prioritize TrueType fonts substitution settings from applications, set this function to [On].
[Toner Save]
Thins out the print data to save toner.

[Draft Mode]
Saves toner and produces a light print result.
[Toner Density]
Enables you to adjust the toner density. This function is useful when you want to save toner, and to adjust the toner density when printing bar codes. If [Details] is displayed, you can adjust the toner density of each color and adjust the toner density by tonal range in the [Toner Density Details] dialog box.

If you select [Printer Default], you may get an unintended print result depending on the setting at the printer. (For example, setting [Printer Default] may result in lighter output than setting [-1 [Light]].)
Depending on the printer model you are using, if you select [Store] or [Hold] for [Output Method], you cannot make detailed adjustments to the toner density in [Details].

[Advanced Smoothing]
Creates smooth contours in text and lines, and prints smooth gradations. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].
[Toner Volume Adjustment]
Enables you to adjust the amount of toner used when printing a document. Use [Gradation Priority] when printing a document that uses a large number of gradations such as in graphics and photographs, and use [Text Priority] when printing a document that contains mainly text data.
[Sharpness]
Enables you to adjust the sharpness of the contours of images.
[Sharpness (Photo)]
Strengthens the edges of low resolution images when printing.
[Use TypeWing]
Performs high speed TrueType font processing.

[Accelerated Image Processing]
Enables you to specify the extent of high speed processing to be used. Higher processing speeds can lead to loss of printing quality.
[Compressed Image Data Processing]
Enables you to select the print processing method to be used when printing compressed image data.

[Auto]
Automatically selects the optimum print processing method.
[Device]
Decompresses the compressed image data at the device. This normally enables higher printing speeds.
[Host]
Decompresses the compressed image data at the computer.
[Gray Compensation]
Enables you to reliably print gray and black data in gray or black. Select the object for gray compensation from [Gray Compensation].
[Gradation Smoothing]
Prints transitions between graduated colors smoothly. [Smooth 2] performs a stronger smoothing process than [Smooth 1].
[Image Compression]
Enables you to adjust the print data compression ratio when sending print data to the printer and gives priority to either print quality or print speed.
[Image Compression Optimization]
Switches the print data compression method when sending it to the printer.
[Always Print PDF File in Raster Mode]
Automatically selects image mode every time you print Adobe Acrobat PDF file data.

When using this function, the following settings are applied:
[Halftones]: [Pattern 2]
[Mode Details]: for black and white printers, [1 BPP]; for color printers, [High Speed]

[Prioritize Printing of Colored Lines and Text]
If colored lines or text are blurred or appear broken when printed, selecting this function helps print fine lines etc. clearly and cleanly.
[Width Adjustment]
Adjust the thickness of specific objects such as text and lines.
[Trapping]
Performs an overlapping process at the boundary between text and background colors to prevent white spaces around the edges of the text. When you select [On], click [Details] to set [Trapping Width] and [Trapping Density].

If the density of text or graphics is weak, trapping is not enabled.
|
[Adjust Toner Volume Used for Color Printing]
Suppresses over-accumulation of toner when printing in color by adjusting the toner amount, thus controlling the following printing faults.
Toner spattering in dark parts of images
Afterimages of dark text or lines
Insufficient fixing of toner in low-temperature environments
Darkening when projecting images printed on transparencies
Accidentally copying the other side when copying originals that have been printed on both sides.
[Off]
Prints with the normal amount of toner.
[Level 1]
Prints by slightly adjusting (decreasing) the toner amount of dense color portions.
[Level 2]
Prints by adjusting (decreasing) the overall toner amount.
[Use Driver Grayscale Conversion When B&W Printing]
If you set [Color Mode] to [Black and White] in the [Basic Settings]/[Quality] tab, this prints with the grayscale conversion of the printer driver having priority over the conversion of the application. By using this function, you can improve the image quality when printing color images in black and white.
[CanoFine]
Automatically adjusts the contrast, color balance, etc. of images to print them crisply. This function is useful for correcting dark photographs so that they are clear and vivid. When you select [On], click [Details] to configure detailed settings.
[Single-page Batch Processing]
Processes multiple bitmaps on a page as a single data item. Select this check box to print rotated images, or images with shapes cut out of them.
[Enhanced Saturation]
Emphasizes vividness when processing.
