Check In/Check Out
Check in and check out are functions of managing documents in a Document Server Library or SharePoint Server Library or Therefore Library. In order for multiple users to use libraries, the check out processing forces the document used by a user to be set so that other users cannot edit it. The check in processing causes the document that a user used to be set to the status where other users can use it.
Check Out
Check out is a processing by which a document is set to the status where it cannot be edited by other users.
This operation can be done only by the user who has the update permission or higher in Document Server or SharePoint Server or Therefore.
Normally, a user first check out a document in a library to update it, and then download the checked out document to perform edit operation. These procedures prevent other users from performing another editing operation for the same document while the original user is editing it. Other users can edit the document only after the document is checked in or the check out is canceled.
You can perform check out only and not download. In this case, the checked out document cannot be edited until the document is checked in or the check out is canceled.
For more information on how to check out a document, see the following.
NOTE
|
You cannot check out two or more documents at once.

Canceling Check Out
Canceling check out is a processing by which the checked out document is set to the status where it can be edited by other users as before check out.
Normally, canceling check out is performed when you have edited the checked out document but do not want to reflect the edited contents in the original document in the library.
If you check out a document in order to make a situation where other users cannot edit it, canceling check out resumes the status where the document can be edited.
For more information on how to cancel check out a document, see the following.
NOTE
|
Canceling check out can be performed by the user who has performed the check out or by a user who has the full control permission.

Check In
Check in is a processing by which the checked out document is saved in the library again as an updated document. This enables other users to edit the updated document.
Normally, check in is performed when you have edited the checked out document and want to reflect the edited contents in the original document in the library.
You can check out a document in order to make a situation where other users cannot edit it. Check in can be used to save another document as an updated document.
For more information on how to check in a document, see the following.
NOTE
|
The check in process can be performed by the user that checked out.
Also, users with full control permission (Document Server/SharePoint Server) can check in documents that have been checked out by other users. For more information on permissions in Document Server/SharePoint Server, consult the server administrator of Document Server/SharePoint Server.
