Scanning Using the WIA Driver

Before scanning with the WIA driver, see "Attention (WIA Driver)."
This section describes how to scan documents using the WIA driver.
You can fine tune settings for each scan.

Scanning from the [Windows Fax and Scan] dialog box

Place your document.
NOTE
To scan from the platen glass
You cannot scan more than one document at a time.

Open the [Windows Fax and Scan] dialog box.

Click [New Scan] on the toolbar.

Double-click the scanner icon when the following screen appears.

Specify the scan settings.

Click [Scan].

Scanning Using Windows Live Photo Gallery (Windows 7/8 only)

Place your document.
NOTE
To scan from the platen glass
You cannot scan more than one document at a time.

Start [Windows Live Photo Gallery].
From the [Start] menu, select [All Programs] -> [Windows Live] -> [Windows Live Photo Gallery].

Open the [Import Pictures and Videos] dialog box.
From the [File] menu, select [Import from camera or scanner].

Double-click the scanner icon.

Specify the scan settings.

Click [Scan].

Click [Import].
[Tag these pictures (optional)]
You can classify the scanned image by typing a tag.

Scanning using an application

When the WIA driver is displayed, use the following steps. For the instructions on how to display the WIA driver, see "Scanning an Image Using an Application".

Place your document.
NOTE
To scan from the platen glass
You cannot scan more than one document at a time.

Select a picture type.
Select one of the following types.
[Color picture]
[Grayscale picture]
[Black and white picture or text]
[Custom settings]

Click [Adjust the quality of the scanned picture] as needed.
The [Advanced Properties] dialog box appears.

Adjust the image quality and click [OK].
[Appearance]
A sample image is displayed.
[Brightness]
Specify the brightness (-127 to 127).
[Contrast]
Specify the contrast (-127 to 127) (only for color or grayscale scans).
[Resolution (DPI)]
Supported resolutions vary, depending on the operating system or the selected [Paper source] setting.
[Picture type]
Specify the color type.
[Reset]
Restore all the settings to the defaults.
NOTE
The options that are displayed in the [Advanced Properties] tab and their default values.
These vary across the selected image type.

Click [Preview] and drag [] to specify the scanning area.

Click [Scan].
