Entering Characters Using a USB Keyboard

If you connect a USB keyboard to the USB port of the machine, you can enter characters using that keyboard instead of entering characters from the numeric keys.
When

is displayed on the display, characters entered from a USB keyboard are displayed on the display.
Even when a USB keyboard is connected, you can use

(numeric keys) on the operation panel. For information on entering characters, see Entering Text.
Entering characters from a USB keyboard differs from entering characters from the numeric keys on the following points:

You can only enter ASCII characters from a USB keyboard. You can also use the spacebar and the arrow keys.

You can enter symbols, numbers, and other characters from the USB keyboard even without tapping <A/a/12> to change the entry mode.

To enter uppercase characters, enter the characters while holding the Shift key on the USB keyboard.

Delete, End, Tab, Esc, function keys, etc. on the USB keyboard are not available.

The sound mode when entering characters with a USB keyboard can be changed by setting the sound mode when entering characters with the numeric keys. For information on setting the sound, see Adjusting the Volume.


Do not insert the connector of the USB keyboard into the USB port at an angle. If you insert it at an angle or insert a connector of a shape that does not meet the USB specifications, the USB port may be damaged. When a USB keyboard is connected to the machine, the machine may not enter the Sleep mode completely. Some USB keyboards may not operate correctly, as described above. Use a commercially sold USB keyboard. The displayed text may differ from the actual text you entered, depending on the keys you entered.

When a USB keyboard is connected to the machine, the machine may not enter the Sleep mode completely.

If you have connected an English keyboard, you can specify the keyboard layout as either <USA Layout> or <UK Layout>. A USB keyboard can be removed at any time.
