Cannot use the acquire device information function/authentication function
If you cannot acquire the device information, or cannot use the department ID management function or the user authentication function, check the following.
Cause 1.
The device is turned off, or the cable is not plugged in properly.
Remedy
Check the status of the device.
Cause 2.
The function has not been set to match the connection environment.
Remedy
Confirm the printable area of the device, and correct the transmission data in the application you are using.
In a print server environment
Install the Canon Driver Information Assist Service in the server computer using the driver installer.
Install TCP/IP as a protocol in your environment from the CD-ROM for the operating system you are using.
When the device is connected in a USB connection or port connection environment
You cannot use the acquire device information, department ID management, and user authentication functions. Also, you cannot use them in the following port connection environments:
An environment in which the computer is directly connected to the device using the SMB function
An environment in which [Enable printer pooling] in the [Ports] sheet of the printer properties screen of Windows * is enabled
Use another connection environment such as a TCP/IP network connection environment for the acquire device information, department ID management, and user authentication functions.
Cause 3.
The name of the device is too long.
Remedy
Confirm that the name of the device registered in the printer list of Windows does not exceed the following number of characters.
Device name: within 209 characters
Share name: within 260 characters
If it exceeds the above numbers, change the name in the [General] or [Sharing] sheet of the Windows printer properties screen *.
* The Windows printer properties screen can be displayed by the following procedure.
(1) Display [Bluetooth & devices] (or [Devices]) from [
Settings] in the Start menu.
(2) In [Printers & scanners], display the management screen for the device to set.
To display the management screen, click the device or click [Manage] for the corresponding device.
(3) Click [Printer properties] for the device to set.
