Cause
Communication via the IP address of a computer in which you intend to install a driver is not permitted in [Firewall Settings] on the machine.
Remedy
If you intend to print using TCP/IP, in order to install the printer driver correctly, communication via the IP address of the computer on which you intend to install the driver must be permitted in [Firewall Settings] on the machine. Check whether communication via the IP address of the computer is permitted in [Firewall Settings] on the machine. (See steps 14 to 16 in "TCP/IPv4 Settings," or steps 13 to 15 in "TCP/IPv6 Settings.")
Cause 1
The machine and cable are not properly connected.
Remedy
Confirm the following, and turn the main power switch of the machine On.
That the machine is connected to the network using the correct cable. (See "Connecting the Machine to a Computer or Network.")
Cause 2
TCP/IP network is not properly set up.
Remedy
Check the following:
Confirm that the IPv4 addresses are properly set up. If the IPv4 addresses were set using DHCP or Auto IP, confirm that they are operating.
Confirm that the IPv6 addresses are properly set up. After checking the settings of the router, set <Use Stateless Address> to 'On' to confirm whether you can obtain an address. If the IPv6 addresses were set using DHCPv6, confirm that DHCPv6 is operating.
Cause 3
The computer that is printing is not properly set up. (Windows)
Remedy
Check the following:
Confirm that the proper printer driver is installed. If you are printing from Windows, each computer must have a printer driver installed. (See "Printing from a Computer (Windows).")
Confirm that the correct printer is set as the output destination for the computer that is printing. You can confirm the output destination by following the procedure below to display the printer icon:
Windows XP Professional/Server 2003: From the [Start] menu, select [Printers and Faxes].
Windows XP Home Edition: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] - [Printers and Other Hardware] - [Printers and Faxes].
Windows Vista: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] → double-click [Printers].
Windows Server 2008: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] → double-click [Printer].
Windows 7/Server 2008 R2: From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] → [View devices and printers] for [Hardware and Sound].
Windows 8/8.1/Server 2012/Server 2012 R2: Place the cursor on the top right (bottom right) of the desktop → select [Settings] → [Control Panel] → [Devices and Printers] for [Hardware and Sound]/[Hardware].
Cause 4
The computer that is printing is not properly set up. (Macintosh)
Remedy
Check the following Macintosh settings:
Confirm that the proper printer driver is installed.
Confirm that the proper printer has been selected as the destination.
Confirm that [Use AppleTalk] is active.
Confirm that the AppleTalk connection method is EtherTalk or Ethernet.
Cause 5
The name of the file being printed is too long.
Remedy
Normally LPR sends jobs either under the name of the application software used for printing or under the file name. However, a job name longer than 255 characters cannot be sent to the printer. To correct this problem, rename the file with a shorter name.
Cause 6
Communication via the IP address of the computer from which data is to be sent to the machine is not permitted in [Firewall Settings] on the machine.
Remedy
Check whether communication via the IP address of the computer is permitted in [Firewall Settings] on the machine. (See steps 14 to 16 in "TCP/IPv4 Settings," or steps 13 to 15 in "TCP/IPv6 Settings.")
Cause 7
An error message appears on the touch panel display of the machine.
Remedy
After confirming the error message, see "List of Error Messages" and perform the necessary operations according to the error message displayed.
Cause
WSD printing has not been set.
Remedy
Check whether communication via the IP address of the computer is permitted in [WSD Settings] on the machine. (See step 7 in "Settings Common to TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6.")
Cause
IPP printing has not been set.
Remedy
Check whether communication via the IP address of the computer is permitted in [IPP Print Settings] on the machine. (See step 9 in "Settings Common to TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6.")
Cause 1
The machine and cable are not properly connected.
Remedy
Confirm the following, and turn the main power switch of the machine ON.
That the machine is connected to the network using the correct cable. (See "Connecting the Machine to a Computer or Network.")
Cause 2
The AppleTalk network is not properly set up.
Remedy
Confirm the AppleTalk settings. In particular, check the following:
Press [Preferences] (Settings/Registration) → [Network] → [AppleTalk Settings].
Confirm that the correct settings are specified → press [OK].
Cause 3
