Installing Desktop Index Filter

If you install Desktop Index Filter to the server that manages shared folders, you can use a simple search to perform full text searches in PDF documents and IWB documents stored in Network Libraries with those shared folders registered.
When performing a simple search, annotations as well as the text in documents are searched. The text in annotations can also be searched with a detailed search.

If the folders and documents in a Network Library are managed with a database, full text searches cannot be performed in that Network Library.

IMPORTANT
If Encrypting File System (EFS) is used in the system folder or Temp folder, the operations of Desktop are not guaranteed.
The Encrypting File System (EFS) is not supported.
Operations are only guaranteed with the following language environments.
Spanish, French, Chinese (Traditional), German, English, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified)
Operations are only guaranteed when the language of the operating system and the system locale are the same.
The number of simultaneously connected clients for which operations are guaranteed is 50.

Registering Folders to Windows Search

Windows Search is used for full text searches. Register the folders of the libraries you want to search to Windows Search.The procedure for Windows Server 2016 is used here as an example.
NOTE
Install Windows Search if Windows Search is not installed. It is recommended that you update Windows Search to the latest version.
Enable Windows Search if it is disabled.
1.
Start Windows and log onto the system as a user with Administrator privileges.
2.
Start [Server Manager].
3.
Click [Add roles and features].
The [Add Roles and Features Wizard] is displayed.
4.
Click [Next] until the items from [Features] is displayed.
5.
Check whether the [Windows Search Service] check box is selected.
If the check box is not selected, select it to enable the function.
6.
Select [Control Panel] > [Indexing Options].
The [Indexing Options] is displayed.
7.
Click [Modify].
The [Indexed Locations] is displayed.
8.
Specify the folders to search in [Change selected locations], and click [OK].
The [Indexed Locations] is displayed again.
9.
Click [Close].

Installing Desktop Index Filter

With Desktop, IFilter is used to perform full text searches for PDF documents and IWB documents. To perform full text searches for PDF documents and IWB documents in a Network Library, install Desktop Index Filter. The procedure for Windows Server 2016 is used here as an example.
NOTE
Desktop Index Filter cannot be upgraded using the installer. Uninstall it before upgrading. Desktop Index Filter can be uninstalled using one of the following methods.
Uninstalling by selecting from [Programs and Features] in [Control Panel]
Uninstalling with the "setup.vbs" file used during installation
If you install Desktop Index Filter, the IFilter for IWB documents and PDF documents is installed. If the IFilter for PDF documents has already been installed, the associations are changed. Therefore, the search results may differ when the search is performed in the operating system.
The search items and search results differ according to the environment. For more information, see the following.
1.
Start Windows and log onto the system as a user with Administrator privileges.
2.
Copy the "Desktop Index Filter" folder on the "Desktop Installation Media" to the desktop of the computer you logged in to.
3.
Double-click the "setup.vbs" file in the folder you copied to the Desktop.
The language selection is displayed.
4.
Select the display language to install from the pull-down list, and click the [OK].
5.
Confirm the content of the license agreement, and click [Agree and Install] if you accept.
6.
Click [Finish].
7.
Select [Control Panel] > [Indexing Options].
The [Indexing Options] is displayed.
8.
Click [Advanced].
The [Advanced Options] is displayed.
9.
Click [Rebuild].
A confirmation message is displayed.
10.
Click [OK].
NOTE
When indexes are rebuilt, full text searches become available. It may take some time to rebuild the indexes.

Confirming when full text searches do not function properly

If full text searches do not function properly, check the following.
Check the Windows Search Service
Check whether the Windows Search Service is running.
Check the status of the indexes
Check whether the search target folders are specified and whether building of the indexes is complete in [Indexing Options].
Check the library settings of the client that is being searched
Check whether the Network Library (database) is not enabled.
Check the IFilter associations
Check whether the PDF documents and IWB documents are associated correctly. If the associations are unknown, reinstall Desktop Index Filter.
