Setting up Clients of a Shared Printer
This explains the procedure for enabling printing from a client computer (hereafter referred to an "a client") using a print server on the same network.
In environments where Windows Update can be used, it is not necessary to use the installer in order for the newest driver to be installed when selecting a print server.
Prerequisites
Configure the share settings of the print server driver.
If the types of operating systems on the print server and clients differ, install the drivers for operating systems supported by the clients on the print server.
To enable device information on the print server to be retrieved when creating a shared printer, enable the following function in the driver on the print server side.
[Device Settings] sheet > [Details] > [Other Settings] > [Retrieve Device Information When Creating Shared Printer]
When starting the computer, log on as a user with administrator privileges.
NOTE If you are configuring the settings of a client in a workgroup environment, the user name and password for logging onto the client must match the user name and password registered in the server.
The driver settings of the server may not be reflected in the clients. If this happens, the driver version of the clients may be older than that of the print server. Always update the client drivers to the newest version together with print server updates.
