When the Printed Media Deforms/Jams in the STM Stack Tray

Implementing a remedy according to the type of printed media deformation enables you to reduce deformation and improve stackability.

If the Printed Media Is Buckled

If there is a difference in the density of the image pattern on the far and near side of the media, the printed media may buckle, depending on the media type. If this buckling causes a height difference of 10 mm (0.39") or more between the center and end of the stacked media, the alignment may be adversely affected.
In this case, consider the following measures.
Divide the job into multiple jobs to reduce the amount of stacking required so there is less difference in height.
Change the pattern or layout of the printed image so there is less difference in density.

If the Printed Media Ends Are Curled or Folded

If there is difference in the density of image pattern on the lead edge or tail end of the media, the ends of the printed media may curl. If this curling causes a height difference of 25 mm (0.98") or more between the center and end of the stacked media, the alignment may be adversely affected. In particular, when mixing different media types together, such as when stacking heavy paper after stacking thin paper, contact with the deformed media may cause a paper jam.
In this case, consider the following measures.
Divide the job into multiple jobs to reduce the amount of stacking required so there is less difference in height.
Consider changing the orientation and layout of the printed image so that the height of the stacked media is higher on the lead edge than the tail end.
Take out the printed media to prevent contact with media of other types.

If the Printed Media Deforms to Fit the Shape of the Stack Tray

Leaving the printed media in the stack tray may cause deformation in the printed media, particularly with thin paper.
In this case, consider the following measures.
After printing, move the printed media to a flat surface as soon as possible.
Output heavy paper of the same size to the bottom of the stack tray, then stack the printed media on top of the heavy paper.
Before executing the actual job, load heavy paper and execute a job that outputs heavy paper.
* You do not need to output any images.
Use heavy paper that conforms to the following.
Paper weight: 300 g/m2 (110.9 lb cover) or heavier
Number of sheets: 7 sheets (300 g/m2 (110.9 lb cover)), 5 sheets (350 g/m2 (129.4 lb cover)), or 2 mm (0.08") or higher in height

If the Printed Media Shifts

Consider the following measures.
In the following cases, set [Offset stacking] in [Stacker stack tray] to 15 mm (0.59").
When [By set] is selected
When using media with a width of 218 mm (8.58") or less in the transport direction
When stacking media above media prone to deformation (such as thin paper), reduce the amount of media that will be stacked. Alternatively, remove the media that is already stacked so that it will not touch the media that will be stacked next.
Increase the margin.
Reduce the area of the printed image to about 80% of the media surface.

If Paper James Occur when Mixing Different Media Types

Paper jams may occur if media is stacked above media of a different type, such as media prone to deformation. For example, when stacking heavy paper on top of thin paper. In this case, consider the following measures.
Change the stacking order (such as by stacking the thin paper after stacking the heavy paper).
Take out the printed media to prevent contact with media of other types.
