Configuring SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol for monitoring and controlling communication devices in a network by accessing a Management Information Base (MIB). Configure these settings according to the purpose of use and environment of the machine.
The machine supports SNMPv1 and SNMPv3. You can also use both. Trap notification is not supported.
When SNMP management software is installed on the network, you can use the software to configure, monitor, and control the machine remotely from a computer. For more information, see the manual of the software you are using.

SNMPv1
Defines the scope of communication using information called a "community name." As the community name is sent to the network in plain text, the security of the network is vulnerable. To ensure network security, disable SNMPv1 and use SNMPv3. When SNMPv1 is disabled, you will not be able to use some functions such as obtaining information from the machine using the printer driver.
SNMPv3
Communicates using user information for SNMPv3. This protocol enables you to configure authentication and encryption settings with the user information to monitor and control communication devices on the network with a solid security system.
This section describes how to configure the settings using the control panel.
You can also configure the settings using Remote UI from a computer. Managing the Machine from a Computer (Remote UI)
* To configure SNMPv3 with Remote UI, you must enable TLS. Using TLS
Administrator or NetworkAdmin privileges are required. The machine must be restarted to apply the settings.

Log in to the machine as an administrator. Logging In to the Machine

Press [Preferences]

Configure the SNMPv1 settings.

Set [Use SNMPv1] to [On].

Configure the community.
You can set MIB Access Permission (permission to read/write to MIB objects) for each community.
When using both SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, it is recommended to set MIB Access Permission to [Read Only]. When setting SNMPv1 to [Read/Write] (full-access permission), you can perform nearly all operations, and therefore, you are not able to use the solid security features of SNMPv3.
To Configure the Community Name
Press [Set Community Name 1] or [Set Community Name 2].
On the displayed screen, set [Community Name 1] or [Community Name 2] to [On], set the MIB access permission and community name, and press [OK].
Enter the community name using single-byte alphanumeric characters.

To Configure a Dedicated Community
A dedicated community is a preset community exclusively for Canon Device Management software.
To use a dedicated community, press [Set Dedicated Community].
On the displayed screen, set [Dedicated Community] to [On], set the MIB access permission, and press [OK].

To Disable SNMPv1
Set [Use SNMPv1] to [Off].

Configure the SNMPv3 settings.
To Enable SNMPv3

Set [Use SNMPv3] to [On].

Press [Administrator Settings].
The [Administrator Settings] screen is displayed.
If the default "Administrator" user is disabled, proceed to Step 4.

Configure the administrator settings, and press [OK].
The screen returns to the [SNMP Settings] screen.
To use the default "Administrator" user information with SNMPv3, set [Use Administrator] to [On].
To use a password that is different from the one set for the default "Administrator" user, press [Use Same Password as for Authentication] to cancel selection, and enter the encryption password.

Press [Custom] [Register].
[Register].The [Register] screen is displayed.

Configure the user, and press [OK].
[User Name]
Enter the user name using single-byte alphanumeric characters.
* You cannot register a user with the user name "Administrator."
[MIB Access Permission]
Set the read/write permission to MIB objects for each specified user.
To allow both read and write, select [Read/Write].

[Security Settings]
Select whether to enable or disable authentication and encryption.
[Authentication Algorithm]
When [Auth. Yes/Encrypt. Yes] or [Auth. Yes/Encrypt. No] is selected in [Security Settings], select the authentication algorithm according to the usage environment.
[Authentication Password]
Enter the password to use for authentication. When the password is entered, the [Confirm] screen is displayed. Enter the password again.
[Encryption Algorithm]
When [Auth. Yes/Encrypt. Yes] is selected in [Security Settings], select the encryption algorithm according to the usage environment.
[Encryption Password]
Enter the password to use for encryption. When the password is entered, the [Confirm] screen is displayed. Enter the password again.

Press [OK].
The screen returns to the [SNMP Settings] screen.
To Disable SNMPv3
Set [Use SNMPv3] to [Off].

Specify whether to obtain printer management information, and press [Next].
To regularly obtain printer management information from the machine, such as protocols and ports, set [Retrieve Printer Mngt. Information from Host] to [On].

Specify whether to receive SNMP data in sleep mode, and press [OK].
To prevent canceling sleep mode when receiving data, set [Reject SNMP Packets While in Sleep Mode] to [On].
* If this is set to [On], Canon software (iW series) and applications using SNMP may not be able to establish a connection.

Press [ Settings/Registration] [Yes].
Settings/Registration] [Yes].The machine restarts, and the settings are applied.
