Troubleshooting

If a problem occurs while the machine is in use, try the actions suggested in this section before contacting technical support.
Check the following first.

Is the power switched ON?

Make sure that the power cord is securely plugged into the machine and into the wall outlet.
Make sure that electricity is supplied from the power cord.
Use another power cord or check to see if the cord is broken using a voltmeter.
Turn OFF and ON the power switch.
If this works, proceed to "Has the power switch been just turned ON?"

Wait a few seconds until the machine starts and warms up.
If this works, proceed to "Is the machine in the sleep mode?"

Is the machine in the sleep mode?

Press any key on the operation panel to return from the sleep mode.
If this works, proceed to "Are the [Paper Jam] or [Paper] Indicators blinking?"

Are the [Paper Jam] or [Paper] Indicators blinking?

Make sure that paper is loaded properly in the paper cassette.
Check to see if there is a jam somewhere inside the machine.
If this works, proceed to "Is anything other than "1" displayed?"

Is anything other than "1" displayed?

See the following section and check the display contents and the actions.

Do an "E" and a subsequent three-digit number repeatedly appear on the display?

Some sort of error has occurred in the printer.
Turn OFF the power switch, wait at least 10 seconds, and then turn it ON again. If the problem is not solved, write down the three-digit number that is displayed, turn OFF the main power switch, disconnect the power cord, and contact the Canon help line.
