Operating a Computer to Scan
How to scan using MF Scan Utility or an application is described here.
Scanning from MF Scan Utility

Place the original in the feeder or on the platen glass.

Start MF Scan Utility.
Windows

[Canon] folder

[Applications]
[Canon MF Utilities] folder
[Canon MF Scan Utility]

Select the machine in [Product Name].

Click [Document] or [Photo] according to the type of original to be scanned.
Scanning starts and the file is saved in the [Document] folder (on Mac: the [Pictures] folder).
NOTE
If you have not changed the settings, and selected [Document], files are saved as color PDFs. If you selected [Photo], files are saved as color JPEGs.
If scanning is not possible,
When using the machine with a USB connection, you cannot scan while the machine is in sleep mode. Press
to cancel sleep mode first.
<Auto Online> might be set to <Off>. Select <Scan> in the Home screen
<Remote Scanner> to set the machine online.
Scanning from an application

Place the original in the feeder or on the platen glass.

From the application, select the start scan command.
How to select the command depends on the application. Refer to the instruction manual of the application you are using.

Select the machine's scanner driver.
Select ScanGear MF or WIA. If you select ScanGear MF, you can make detailed scan settings.
How to use ScanGear MF,
If you select [Basic Mode], you can scan in the order 1 to 3 shown. Select [Advanced Mode] to set detailed data size and image quality. For descriptions of items appearing on the ScanGear MF screen, click
for a Help file.

Make scan settings if necessary.

Click [Scan].
The scan begins and the image is sent to the application.
If scanning is not possible,
When using the machine with a USB connection, you cannot scan while the machine is in sleep mode. Press

Depending on the application, the second and following pages of the original may not be scanned, or an error message may appear after scanning. If this happens, place the originals one at a time to scan them.

The application must support TWAIN or WIA*. For details, see your application's instruction manual.
*TWAIN is a standard for connecting image-input devices such as scanners to a computer. WIA is a built-in function of Windows.
