Performing a Simple Search

With a simple search, you can perform a full-text search or folder/document properties information search.
Note
The library that can perform a full-text search in Desktop is the following. In other libraries, only property information can be searched for.
A folder on the local computer that has been registered as a Personal Library
Document Server Library
SharePoint Server Library
To perform a full-text search on a Personal Library in Desktop, Windows Search must be installed.
If Windows Search is not installed, use "Windows Update" to install Windows Search 4.0 and perform a repair installation of Desktop.
When you are using Windows Search 3.0, it is recommended that you update it to Windows Search 4.0.
When you newly install the Windows Search Service, register the Windows folder created by the Personal Library of Desktop in the Windows Search Service. ([Control Panel] > [Indexing Options] > [Change]). When you update Windows Search, rebuild indexes ([Control Panel] > [Indexing Options] > [Advanced] > [Rebuild]).
For more information on "Windows Update", rebuilding, and folder registration, refer to the Help for your computer.
Full-text searches are not available when an imageRUNNER ADVANCE Advanced Space and a shared folder of another computer are registered as libraries.
When Windows Search is installed and the Windows Folder where the Personal Library of Desktop is created is already registered in the Windows Search Service, searches are performed using indexes.
If you change the display format for dates or numeric values in [Control Panel] > [Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options], you need to rebuild indexes to perform searches using the new display format. For more information on how to rebuild indexes ([Control Panel] > [Indexing Options] > [Advanced] > [Rebuild]), refer to the Help for your computer.
For more information on folder properties, see the following.
For more information on document properties, see the following.

Date stamps
You can enter single or double-byte spaces as keyword separators. When a search is executed, search results that include all the separated strings are displayed.
When "*" (asterisk) and "?" (question mark) are used in search keywords, they are regarded as normal keyword characters but not as wildcards.
Upper/lower cases and Katakana/Hiragana characters are distinguished in full-text searches targeting Personal Library only when the full text search is enabled. However, for full-text searches targeting a Document Server Library, Katakana/Hiragana characters are always distinguished. For properties information searches, these characters are not distinguished regardless of the library type and whether full-text searches are enabled/disabled.
In a document inside Document Server Library, when using a word which does not make sense as a search keyword (e.g., "a" or "the"), all documents within the search range, including those which do not contain the search keywords, will be displayed.
