Preparing to Print Data Using a Driver

Make the following preparations for each computer used to print data.

Step 1: Installing the Driver on the Computer

Install the printer driver on the computer that will be used to print. Installing Software and Drivers to the Computer
Using a Print Server in Windows
Use a print server to install the printer driver.
Double-click the shared printer on the print server, and follow the instructions on the screen to install the printer driver. Displaying a Shared Printer in the Print Server
NOTE
Changing the Port Type (Windows Only)
If the machine is configured not to use LPD or RAW, the settings on the computer may also have to be changed. Changing the Port Type

In macOS, you must re-register the machine on the Mac. For details about how to register the machine, see the manual of the driver at the online manual site.
* If you are using DHCP to automatically obtain the IP address of the machine, the IP address may be changed automatically.

Step 2: Using a Driver to Set the User Management Information

Use the printer driver to set the user management information in the following cases. Configuring User Management Information on a Computer
When user authentication is applied to printing from a computer
When Department ID Management is enabled on the machine
* You can skip this step if neither case applies. Proceed to Step 3. Step 3: Configuring the Option Settings of the Machine Using the Driver
* If you do not know whether these cases apply to the machine you are using, contact the administrator.

Step 3: Configuring the Option Settings of the Machine Using the Driver

When optional equipment is installed to the machine, you must configure the option settings in the printer driver in advance.
In Windows, normally, the option settings are configured automatically when the printer driver is installed.
Use the following procedure to configure the option settings when the option settings have not been configured at installation, optional equipment has been installed after installation of the printer driver, or when using macOS.

When Using Windows

Administrator privileges are required on each computer.

Log on to the computer using an administrator account.

Click [] (Start) [] (Settings) [Bluetooth & devices] [Printers & scanners].
The [Printers & scanners] screen is displayed.

Click the printer driver of the machine [Printer properties].
The printer driver properties screen is displayed.

On the [Device Settings] tab, click [] in [Device Information].
The [Confirmation] screen is displayed.

Click [Yes].
The option settings are obtained.

Click [OK] [OK].
The settings are applied.
Next, proceed to Step 4. Step 4: Enabling the Security Printing Function on the Printer Driver
NOTE
If [Could not retrieve the device information.] Appears
Specify the option settings manually. For details about how to configure the option settings manually, click [Help] on the [Device Settings] tab to display help.

When Using macOS

Click [] [System Settings] [Printers & Scanners].
The [Printers & Scanners] screen is displayed.

Select the machine, and click [Options & Supplies].

On the [Utility] tab, click [Open Printer Utility].
The [Office Printer Utility] screen is displayed.

Click [Printer Information].
The option information is obtained, and the [Printer Information] screen is displayed.

Click [OK] [Save Settings].
The settings are applied.

NOTE
When the Option Information Cannot Be Obtained
Specify the option settings manually. For details about how to configure the option settings manually, see the manual of the driver at the online manual site.

Step 4: Enabling the Security Printing Function on the Printer Driver

Enable the security printing function on the printer driver in the following cases:
When using the Secure Watermark function
When using the Secure Print function in macOS
 

When Using Windows

On the [Options] tab, select the [Secure Printing Function of Device] checkbox.
