Preparations for Using AirPrint

Set the basic information that is required to use AirPrint. In addition, configure the settings related to the functions and security that will be used, according to your usage and environment.
NOTE
When Using User Authentication or Department ID Management
User information and Department IDs cannot be specified with AirPrint. To use AirPrint while using User Authentication or Department ID Management, you must configure the settings so as not to restrict printing, scanning, or sending faxes from a computer whose user information or Department ID is unknown.

Setting the Basic Information of AirPrint

This section describes how to configure the settings using Remote UI from a computer.
On the control panel, select [ Settings/Registration] in the [Home] screen or other screen, and then select [Preferences] to configure the settings. You cannot use the control panel to configure some of the settings. [Network]
Administrator or NetworkAdmin privileges are required.
1
Log in to Remote UI as an administrator. Starting Remote UI
2
On the Portal page of Remote UI, click [Settings/Registration]. Remote UI Portal Page
3
Click [Network Settings]  [AirPrint Settings].
The [AirPrint Settings] screen is displayed.
4
Select the [Use AirPrint] checkbox.
5
Specify whether to display errors for AirPrint.
To display error messages on the control panel when there is a problem with the print data of AirPrint and printing does not match the data, select the [Display Errors for AirPrint] checkbox.
* Even if the checkbox is not selected, [Error] is displayed in the print job log.
6
Enter the printer name.
In [Printer Name], enter a name to identify the machine, using single-byte alphanumeric characters.
If mDNS of IPv4 is set, the same name as that of mDNS is entered for the printer name. If you change the printer name, the mDNS name is also changed.
* When you change the set printer name or mDNS name, the Mac that was connected to the machine may no longer be able to connect to it. In this case, you must re-register the machine on the Mac.
7
Enter the location and longitude and latitude of the machine, as needed.
If the location of the machine is set in [Settings/Registration]  [Device Management]  [Device Information Settings], the same character string is entered for the location. When you change the location set in AirPrint Settings, the location set in Device Information Settings is also changed.
8
Click [OK].
The settings are applied.
9
Log out from Remote UI.
NOTE
When the AirPrint function is enabled, the following network settings are also enabled.
mDNS (IPv4/IPv6) [mDNS Settings]
* The mDNS setting for IPv6 is fixed to use the same mDNS name as IPv4.
Network Link Scan [Use Network Link Scan]

Setting the Functions and Security to Be Used with AirPrint

AirPrint uses the following protocols:
IPP (printing and sending faxes)
Network Link Scan (scanning)
The protocol to use varies with the function. Therefore, you can restrict the available functions by disabling the protocols. In addition, you can configure the settings to encrypt communication with TLS and configure IPP authentication when using a protocol.

This section describes how to configure the settings using Remote UI from a computer.
On the control panel, select [ Settings/Registration] in the [Home] screen or other screen, and then select [Preferences] to configure the settings. [Network]
Administrator or NetworkAdmin privileges are required.
Required Preparations
When encrypting communication with TLS, specify the key and certificate to use for TLS encrypted communication. Using TLS
1
Log in to Remote UI as an administrator. Starting Remote UI
2
On the Portal page of Remote UI, click [Settings/Registration]. Remote UI Portal Page
3
Click [Network Settings]  [IPP Print Settings] or [Network Link Scan Settings].
The [IPP Print Settings] screen or [Network Link Scan Settings] screen is displayed.
4
Configure the IPP or Network Link Scan settings.
When Restricting the Functions to Use
Clear the [Use IPP] or [Use Network Link Scan] checkboxes.
When you clear the [Use IPP] checkbox, printing and sending faxes with AirPrint are no longer possible.
When you clear the [Use Network Link Scan] checkbox, scanning with AirPrint is no longer possible.
When Encrypting Communication with TLS
Select the [Allow When Using TLS] or [Use TLS] checkbox.
When Setting IPP Authentication
Select the [Use Authentication] checkbox.
The user name and password used for IPP authentication become the user information of the machine.
Printing or sending faxes with AirPrint now requires authentication, and only users who are registered to the machine can use these functions.
* If you want to configure a user name and password for IPP authentication that is different than that of the user registered to the machine, register the information as the user information of the machine. Registering User Information to a Local Device
5
Click [OK].
The settings are applied.
6
Log out from Remote UI.
