Opening with Annotation Editor

Annotation Editor can open binder documents and PDF documents. Start Annotation Editor by using the [Insert Annotations] menu in [Desktop Browser] or (Insert Annotations).
If you select [Prioritize Annotation Editor], Annotation Editor is prioritized over external applications when opening PDF documents.
[Settings] > [System Settings] > [Browser] > [Edit/Operation Documents] > [Select Program for Opening PDF Document] > [Prioritize Annotation Editor]
This section describes how to open a PDF document with Annotation Editor when [Prioritize Annotation Editor] is selected.
Important
If you open a PDF document with Reader Extensions in Annotation Editor, the Reader Extensions function is deleted.
Note
If a document saved in a Network Library is being edited by another user, a message is displayed and it cannot be opened in Annotation Editor.

You can start more than one instance of Annotation Editor.
A single Annotation Editor screen enables you to edit only a single document.
If you want to perform operations on documents in a Document Server Library or SharePoint Server Library for which no connection has been established or in a library on the network drive that requires authentication, you need to connect to the site or library.

Select a PDF document to open with Annotation Editor in the File List View Pane.
Note
You cannot open more than one PDF document at the same time.
You cannot open a PDF document in the Recycle Bin using Annotation Editor.
You cannot select a binder document or PDF document that has already been opened in Annotation Editor to start Annotation Editor.
You cannot start Annotation Editor by selecting a PDF document with the unsupported security settings, such as a PDF with security policies.

Click (Annotations) on the Toolbar.
Or, follow one of the steps described below.
Click (Open) on the Toolbar.
Select the [File] menu > [Open Document] > [Open].
Right-click a document and select [Open]
Double-click the document
Select a document and then press the [Enter] key on the keyboard
Annotation Editor is started.
Note
If buttons are not displayed on the Desktop Browser Toolbar, set the buttons on the Toolbar. For more information, see the following.
When you open a document in a Document Server Library or SharePoint Server Library, a message is displayed to confirm whether or not to check it out. In this case, click [Yes].
You can set the check out message to not display. For more information, see the following.
You cannot open two instances of a binder document/PDF document stored in a library concurrently.
The following documents can be opened in the "read-only mode." In this case, you cannot save documents by overwriting the existing ones.
Documents stored in the Document Server Library for which you do not have the update permissions or higher with Document Server
Documents stored in the SharePoint Server Library for which you do not have the update permissions or higher with SharePoint Server
A document that is currently being checked out by another user
A binder document that is currently being used in Document Binder
A PDF document that is certified through the signature can be opened in the certified document mode. In this case, the document cannot be edited, printed, or saved.
When binder documents or PDF documents created with Desktop V2.0.1 or earlier are opened with Annotation Editor, all their annotations are converted into Desktop V3.0.0 format.
Selecting a PDF package or PDF portfolio displays only a cover page.
For digital stamps attached using an application other than Annotation Editor, the stamp image may not be displayed properly.
When a large number of pages or annotations are selected, unwanted dotted-line frames may be displayed.

When you have selected a password protected PDF document, enter the password into the [Enter Password] dialog box, and then click [OK].
The selected document is displayed in the Annotation Editor screen.
