Configuring SMB
This machine uses the Server Message Block (SMB) communication protocol to save scanned data to a shared folder, for example. Depending on the network environment, you may have to set the computer name and workgroup name of the machine and the settings for connecting as an SMB client.
Setting the Computer Name and Workgroup Name
Set the computer name that serves as a name identifying the machine on the network and the name of the workgroup to which the machine belongs.
This section describes how to configure the settings using the control panel.
You can also configure the settings using Remote UI from a computer.
Managing the Machine from a Computer (Remote UI)Administrator or NetworkAdmin privileges are required. The machine must be restarted to apply the settings.

Log in to the machine as an administrator.

On the control panel, press [
Settings/Registration] in the [Home] screen or other screen.
[Home] ScreenThe [Settings/Registration] screen is displayed.

Press [Preferences]
[Network]
[TCP/IP Settings]
[Computer Name/Workgroup Name Settings].
The [Computer Name/Workgroup Name Settings] screen is displayed.

Enter the computer name and workgroup name of the machine, and press [OK].
Enter using single-byte alphanumeric characters.
In an Environment with WINS
Set [Use NetBIOS] to [On].
You cannot register names that start with an asterisk (*) to the WINS server.

Press [
Settings/Registration]
[Yes].
The machine restarts, and the settings are applied.
Configuring an SMB Client
Configure the settings to connect the machine to an SMB server (such as a computer with shared folder) as an SMB client, and specify the version of SMB to use.
This section describes how to configure the settings using the control panel.
You can also configure the settings using Remote UI from a computer.
Managing the Machine from a Computer (Remote UI)Administrator or NetworkAdmin privileges are required.

Press [Preferences]
[Network]
[TCP/IP Settings]
[SMB Client Settings].
The [SMB Client Settings] screen is displayed.
Configure the settings to connect to the SMB server, and press [OK].
[Authentication Type]
Select the version of the authentication protocol according to the authentication protocol of the SMB server.
[Require SMB Signature for Connection]
To request an SMB packet signature when connecting to the SMB server, set this to [On].
[Require Encryption for Connection]
To connect only to an SMB server that supports SMB v3.0 encrypted communication, set this to [On].
[Timeout]
Enter the wait time until the SMB server responds.
* If the machine times out before completing an operation such as saving scanned data, lengthen the wait time.

Press [Specify SMB Client Version].
The [Specify SMB Client Version] screen is displayed.

Select the version of the SMB server to which the machine will be connected, and press [OK].
If you set [Require Encryption for Connection] to [On] in Step
4, set the version to 3.0 or later.

Press [
Settings/Registration]
[Yes].
The settings are applied.
