Monitoring Preparation

To monitor the status of the printer or its print/fax jobs using Desktop Browser, Printer Monitor, or Quick Printing Tool, the printer/fax must be configured as a monitoring target in Desktop Monitor Setup.
To configure a printer to be monitored, create application-enabled port of the printer.
When the standard TCP/IP port are specified to the printer, it is possible to automatically respecify the application-enabled port with the same IP address.
You can change the properties of the printer and the port. For more information, see the following.
Note
By using the Quick Printing Tool, you can enable monitoring when you create an application enabled port. For more information on these settings, see the following.
While Desktop Monitor Setup is running, do not perform the specifying operation of printer/fax from the [Printer] folder (the [Printers and Faxes] folder) in Windows. If done, Desktop Monitor Setup needs to restart. The changing operation of the port of the printer to which the application-enabled port has been specified or of the printer name should be performed from Desktop Monitor Setup, not from the [Printer] folder (the [Printers and Faxes] folder) in Windows.
Up to 12 computers can be used for monitoring a printer using application-enabled ports.
For more information on how to specify a new application-enabled port, see the following.
For more information on how to convert between the standard TCP/IP port and the application-enabled port, see the following.
For more information on how to change the properties of the printer, see the following.
