Problem
Failed to update firmware due to the following reasons:
There is no firmware to update.
Connection with a computer is disconnected.
A transmission (print, etc.) is processing from other computer or application to
the machine during updating firmware.
Action 1
Check firmware that you updated is the newest version.
Action 2
Check a connection between the machine and computer.
If they are connected by USB cable, see "USB Cable Connection (Only when connecting with USB)."
Action 3
If there is a processing job, wait until it is finished.
<An error has occurred.>
Problem
Connection is interrupted during transmission with a computer, or any kind of error has occurred.
Action 1
Check whether a driver or software is correctly installed on the computer.
If the connection method (USB connection/wireless LAN connection/wired LAN connection) was changed, uninstall the MF driver.
Once uninstallation is complete, reinstall the MF driver.
Action 2
Check a connection between the machine and computer.
If they are connected by USB cable, see "USB Cable Connection (Only when connecting with USB)."
<Can not perform. The address has been edited or deleted.>
Problem
Tried to edit or delete a destination from the machine, but it was already edited or deleted from Remote UI.
Action
Confirm destination again.
<Can only forward to destinations registered in the address book.>
Problem
When attempting to forward a document from the memory, no destination was registered in the address book.
Action
Register a destination in the address book.
<Cannot find access point.>
Problem 1
When setting up using the WPS function, the machine could not detect wireless LAN router or access points.
Action
Repeat the setup again using the WPS function.
Push Button Mode: Press the WPS button within two minutes from the start of the search for an access point.
"Setting the Machine Using WPS (Push Button Mode)"
PIN code mode: Enter the PIN code from a computer to the wireless LAN router or access point within 10 minutes of the start of the search for an access point.
"Setting the Machine Using WPS (PIN Code Mode)"

For details on how to push the WPS button or to enter PIN code, refer to the instruction manual for your wireless LAN routers and/or access points or contact their manufactures.
Problem 2
The SSID of the wireless LAN router or access point was not entered correctly using the manual input settings.
Action 1
There might be the default of SSID or network key on the wireless LAN router or access point device.
If you do not change the settings, write down them and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the SSID or network key (WEP key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Action 2
If the settings of the wireless LAN router/access point have been changed, the settings have not been marked or you are unsure of them, check the SSID of the wireless LAN router or access point using the Canon MF/LBP Wireless Setup Assistant.
Problem 3
Network problems are preventing the machine from detecting the wireless LAN router or access point.
Action
Check network connection.
If the access point cannot be determined even after checking the network connection, check the security settings on the wireless LAN router or access point.
<Cannot print RX data.>
Problem
Printing the receive fax data is not available due to the following reasons:
Toner cartridge needs to be replaced soon.
Toner cover is open.
Toner cartridge is not installed.
No paper
Paper is jammed.
Printing is not available due to any kind of error.
Other printing job is running.
Action
If an error message is shown, follow the onscreen instructions.
If there is a running job, wait until the job is complete.
<Cannot send because more than one destination is set.>
Problem
Sending faxes to multiple destinations is restricted.
Action
Settings for the sequential broadcasting need to be changed. Contact your administrator for more information.
<Cannot specify a group.>
Problem
A group was specified as a destination after pressing the Hook key.
Action
Do not press the Hook key when specifying a group destination.
<Check toner cartridge.>
Problem 1
Toner cartridge is not installed correctly, or there is a possible trouble on the toner cartridge.
Action
Reinstall the toner cartridge. If this message does not disappear after several reinstalling, the toner cartridge might be possibly broken. Contact a shop where you purchased the machine, or the Canon Customer Care Center.
Problem 2
You are not using Canon genuine toner cartridge.
Action
We recommend Canon genuine toner cartridges as replacement toner cartridges.
<Cleaning failed.>
Problem
A paper jam occurred while the fixing unit was being cleaned.
Action
Clear the paper jam and reload paper.
<Close toner cover.>
Problem
The toner cover is not completely closed.
Action
Make sure that the toner cover is completely closed.
<Connect computer.>
Problem
The machine is not connected to a computer when you try to scan a document.
Action
Connect the machine to a computer.
<Connection was suspended. Resume?>
Problem
Transmission is interrupted because any kind of error occurred.
Action
Select <Yes> to resume the connection. To suspend the connection, select <No>.
 If the connection does not resumed, check the network connection.
<Could not connect. Check PSK settings.>
Problem
The network key (PSK key) for the wireless LAN router or access point is not setup in the machine correctly.
Action 1
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key (PSK key) and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the network key (PSK key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Action 2
If the network key (PSK key) is correct, check the network connection.
<Could not connect. Check security settings.>
Problem
Connection failed because settings for your wireless LAN routers and/or access points are different from security settings of the machine.
Action
Check the security settings of the wireless LAN router or access point, and repeat the setup again.
<Could not connect. More than one access point was detected.>
Problem
Other wireless LAN routers or access points within connection range were detected.
Multiple wireless LAN routers and/or access points cannot be connected simultaneously by holding down their respective WPS buttons.
Action
Wait for a while and try again.
<Export failed.>
Problem
Exporting the address book failed.
Action 1
Check the USB cable connecting the machine to a computer.
Action 2
Check if you have access permission to the destination folder of the address book on the computer.
You cannot access or edit the address book if you do not have access permission to the destination folder of the address book. If this is the case, log on as user having access permission to the folder, or click [Specify a Folder] in the [Edit Address Book] tab, and change the destination folder of the address book to a folder that you have write permission for.
<Fax can only over- write other faxes.>
Problem
Tried to over-write a destination registered as <Fax> with a destination registered as <Group> type.
Action
Over-write <Group> type destination, or register to a unregistered place.
<Group can only over- write other groups.>
Problem

The network key (WPA/WPA2-PSK, WEP key) for the wireless LAN router or access point is not setup in the machine correctly.
Action 1
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key(WPA/WPA2-PSK, WEP key) and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the network key (WPA/WPA2-PSK, WEP key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Action 2
If the network key (WPA/WPA2-PSK, WEP key) is correct, check the network connection.

Problem
The appropriate paper size is not specified.

Problem
A fax could not be sent or received due to insufficient memory.
Action 1
If there are jobs waiting to be sent or printed, send your document after the jobs are complete.

Print, send, or delete jobs stored in memory.

Divide large documents in two and try to send them again.

Reduce the scanning resolution and send the document again.

Problem 1
Failed to scan the documents because of the shortage of memory capacity.

Either print all pages that were successfully scanned or cancel the job.

This message automatically appears when you specify multiple destinations.

Problem 1
The current settings do not allow you to specify new destinations.
Action
To specify a new destination, you need to change the settings. Contact your administrator for more information.
Problem 2
The current settings do not allow you to register new destinations or edit the destinations registered in the address book or one-touch keys.
Action
To register a new destination or change a registered destination, you need to change the settings. Contact your administrator for more information.
<No Paper: Drawer 1>
<No Paper: MP Tray>
Problem 1
There is no paper in the paper cassette or multi-purpose tray.
Action
Load paper.
Problem 2
When printing a report or list, the appropriate paper size is not specified.
Action
When printing a report or list, set the paper size to <A4> or <LTR>, and then load paper of the corresponding size.
Problem 3
When receiving a fax, the appropriate paper size is not specified.
Action
Set the appropriate paper size and type to print a received document.
The following paper sizes and types are available for printing a received document.

Available paper type: Plain, Plain L, Recycled paper, Color paper
<No registered destinations.>
Problem
No destination is registered in the one-touch key or coded dialing code that you pressed.
Action
Register a destination.
<No response.>
Problem 1
The recipient did not respond within 35 seconds.
Action
Repeat the sending procedure from the beginning. Additionally, ask the recipient to check the fax machine. If you are sending a fax to an international destination, add a pause to the fax number.
Problem 2
The recipient may not be a Super G3 fax machine.
Action
Send the fax to a Super G3 fax machine. If the recipient does not have a Super G3 fax machine, select a communication mode that is compatible with the recipient's fax machine and try to send the fax again.
<No response from host.>
Problem
The machine is not connected to a network or the connection is not properly configured.
Action
Connect the machine to a network and properly configure the connection.
<No specified destinations.>
Problem
Tried to select <Confirm/Edit Destination> without specifying a destination.
Action
Confirm after specifying a destination using the address book or the numeric keys.
<Number is incorrect. Enter again.>
Problem
You entered an incorrect PIN.
Action
Enter the correct PIN. Contact your administrator for more information.
<Numbers do not match. Enter the numbers again.>
Problem
The number that you entered for confirmation does not match the number that you first entered. This message appears when <Fax No. Confirmation Re-Entry> in <Restrict TX Function> in <System Settings> is set to <On>.
Action
Make sure to enter the same number.
<Open authentication failed. Check WEP settings.>
Problem 1
Connection failed because the machine uses <Open System> authentication while the wireless LAN router or access point used is set to "Shared Key" authentication.
Action
Change the WEP authentication method on the machine to <Shared Key> accordingly and configure the settings manually.
For information on how to check the network key (WEP key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Problem 2
The connection failed because the machine restricted the MAC address and the MAC address filtering was set with the wireless LAN router or access point you are using.
Action
Change the MAC address for the machine and the computer you are using to the allowed settings.
For information on how to set MAC address filtering, refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
<Paper jam.>
Problem
Paper is jammed in the machine.
Action
Clear the paper jam, and reload paper and the document.
<Performing job... Try again after job is complete.>
Problem
Quiet mode key is pressed while a job is in process.
Action
Wait until the job is complete if there is a processing job.
<Performing job. Wait a moment.>
Problem
A new job cannot be running because the machine is processing.
Action
Please wait.
<Performing job... Wait a moment and try again.>
Problem 1
Firmware cannot be updated because the machine is processing.
Action
Please wait.
Problem 2
Jobs that cannot be performed at the same time were tried to be performed, such as printing reports in the process of printing documents.
Action
If there are jobs running, wait until the processing jobs are complete.
<Prepare toner cartridge.>
Problem
The toner cartridge needs to be replaced soon.
Action
Shake the toner cartridge to evenly distribute the toner inside the cartridge.
It is recommended to replace the toner cartridge when printing a large volume of documents.
<Remove paper from MP tray.>
Problem
There is paper in the multi-purpose tray when you try to print an address book list, user data list, or communication management report. (If there is paper in the multi-purpose tray, the faxes, reports, or lists will not be printed, but will be stored in the memory.)
Action
Remove any paper from the multi-purpose tray and try to print again.
<Scan STMT originals on platen glass.>
Problem
Tried to copy or scan while the statement size of documents are placed in the feeder.
Action
Scan the statement size of documents on the platen glass.
<Select A4/LTR for output paper size.>
Problem
Paper other than A4/LTR size has been selected when printing reports.
Action
Specify A4 or LTR sized paper.
<Sending from History is restricted.>
Problem
You are restricted to use the auto redial function.
Action 1
Redial the number manually.
Action 2
To use the redialing function, you need to change the settings. Contact your administrator for more information.
<Set encryption to Auto.>
Problem
Connection failed because the machine uses <AES-CCMP> authentication while the wireless LAN router or access point used is set to "TKIP" authentication.
Action
Change so that the WPA/APA2-PSK encryption on the wireless LAN router or access point will become "AES-CCMP", and repeat setup again.
For information on how to change encryption method, refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
If you do not change the wireless LAN routers or access points setup, change WPA/WPA2-PSK encryption method for the machine to <Auto> (TKIP or AES-CCMP) and reconfigure them.
<Shared Key auth. failed. Check WEP settings.>
Problem 1
The network key (WEP key) for the wireless LAN router or access point is not set up in the machine correctly.
Action
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key (WEP key) and repeat the setup again.
For information on how to check the network key (WEP key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Problem 2
Connection failed because the machine uses <Shared Key> authentication while the wireless LAN router or access point used is set to "Open System" authentication.
Action
Change so that the WEP encryption on the wireless LAN router or access point will become "Shared Key", and repeat setup again. 
For information on how to change the authentication method , refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
If you do not change the wireless LAN routers or access points setup, change the WEP authentication method of the machine to <Open System> and reconfigure them.
<Toner is nearly out.>
Cause
The toner cartridge has reached the end of its life.
Action
Redistribute the toner.
If this message does not disappear, replace the toner cartridge.
If this message is displayed during copying or printing (including manual printing of reports), the current job will continue normally.
If this message is displayed while receiving a fax, the incoming fax will be stored in the memory without being printed. Also, reports may not be printed, even if they are set to be printed automatically.
If <Continue Print. When Toner Is Nearly Out> in <RX Print Settings> is set to <On>, printing will be continued, but white streaks or smudges may appear on printouts.
<Turn the main power OFF and ON.>
<If problem persists contact dealer or service rep.>
Problem
An error has occurred with the machine.
Action
Turn OFF the power switch, wait 10 seconds, and turn the power switch ON again. If the problem is not solved, turn OFF the power switch, disconnect the power cord, and contact your local authorized Canon dealer or the Canon help line.
Notify your local authorized Canon dealer or the Canon help line with the displayed <Ennn-nnnn>.
<WEP key is not set correctly. Check WEP settings.>
Problem 1
The network key (WEP key) for the wireless LAN router or access point is not set up in the machine correctly.
Action
Check the wireless LAN or access point you are using, enter the correct network key (WEP key) and repeat the setup again.
If your wireless LAN router or access point is not WPS capable, manually select a specific wireless LAN router or access point for your network identification.
For information on how to check the network key (WEP key), refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
Problem 2
Connection failed because the machine uses <Shared Key> authentication while the wireless LAN router or access point used is set to "Open System" authentication.
Action
Change the WEP authentication method on the wireless LAN router or access point to "Open System" and configure the settings again.
For information on how to check or setup the WPS function, refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
If you do not change the wireless LAN routers or access points setup, change the WEP authentication method on the machine to <Open System> and repeat the setup again.

Problem
An error occurred with the machine during setup resulting in communication failure.
Action 1
Turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON, and then repeat the setup again.
Action 2
Check network connection.
If the access point cannot be determined even after checking the network connection, check the security settings on the wireless LAN router or access point.
<WPS connection failed.>
Problem
An error occurred while performing setup using the WPS function resulting in failure to connect.
Action
Check that the wireless LAN router or access point that you are using supports WPS function. If it does, check the network connection.
If your wireless LAN router or access point is not WPS capable, manually select a specific wireless LAN router or access point for your network identification.
 For information on how to check the WPS function, refer to the instruction manual of the wireless LAN router or access point, or contact the manufacturer.
<You can only enter 10 new destinations.>
Problem
Tried to specify 10 or more new destinations using the numeric keys.
Action
You can specify up to 10 destinations using the numeric keys.
Delete the destination from <Confirm/Edit Destination>, or specify the pre-registered destinations from <Address Book> or <Coded Dial>.
